Senior Test Automation Engineer

 

Job Description

Responsible for participating in the execution of procedures for ensuring the quality and serviceability of new features and releases of software. Authors and executes test cases, using defined methodologies for manual and/or automated tests. Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action. Maintains and modifies test environment and configuration as needed, creates new test environments and configurations to meet test cases or problem recreation requirements. Documents test results, manages and maintains defect and test case databases to assist in the continuous improvement and modification of software. Assists in the assessment and planning of test efforts required for new functions/features under development. Works with quality and development engineers in resolution of problems.

 External responsibilities

·        Support and enhance the automation test architecture and test harness utilizing object oriented programming and data driven testing methods

·        Create, validate, execute and maintain automated test scripts and supporting test data to accurately test product features

·        Collaborate with quality engineering staff to understand new and existing functional testing strategies, and design automation that incorporates new test cases into the existing suite of automated tests effectively for long-term sustainability and execution efficiency of the whole suite.

·        Write Test Strategies, Test Execution Reports, and other documents as required

·        Identify, analyze, and clearly document defects, questionable behavior and inconsistencies in test automation and in product functionality; triage issues with cross-functional team and track resolution through to closure, including verifying fixes.

·        Provide accurate estimates of effort to complete assigned work areas; effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environment, ensuring that goals are achieved in a timely manner.

·        Track and provide clear, accurate and prompt communication to leadership and management teams regarding progress and quality metrics for assigned work areas.

·        Provide product, project and general technical knowledge transfer to cross-functional and QE team members, including mentoring junior automation engineers.

·        May participate in or lead functional testing projects for new features where white box testing methods and tools are employed.

·        Continually develop skills to improve the quality of contributions to overall team goals.

 External requirements:

·        3+ years in software quality assurance / test engineering

·        Strong technical and object-oriented programming skills, with 2+ years developing and maintaining complex automated tests and automation infrastructure (preferably using Silk Test)

·        Strong skills using complex SQL queries to analyze data, set up test scenarios and evaluate test results

·        Hands-on experience testing complex enterprise-level business applications, including SaaS solutions, web services and browser based applications using both black box and white box methodologies

·        Desirable to have an understanding of how leading Web browsers function (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome)

·        Desirable to have an understanding of .NET framework

·        Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

·        Excellent analytical skills to extrapolate information and troubleshoot problems from large amounts of complex data

·        Ability to work with minimal supervision, takes initiative and ownership of assignments, plan effectively and report progress against plan.

·        Ability to work effectively as a positive, constructive member of a cross-functional, global team.
