Senior Test Engineer

About the Job

The Senior Test Engineer contributes to all functions relating to the planning, installation, configuration and maintenance of all test and staging lab configurations  in support of Medidata*s customer facing systems and services deployed and supported by Medidata Hosting Operations. The Senior Test Engineer must demonstrate the ability to work and deliver quality results in a highly dynamic environment, either individually or as part of a team. The Senior Services Engineer responsibilities include the support of technology activities and systems supported within IT Hosting Operations test environments including but not limited to management and maintenance of lab hardware and software configurations, planning the installation of hardware/software solutions, monitoring systems and services under test, designing and documenting test strategies alerting on test exceptions, working with hosted operations and product development to resolve test issues, management of backup and recovery operations for lab configurations, authoring the documentation of supported Hosted Operations systems and resolving complex customer related problems. The Senior Test Engineer duties include all  Medidata hosted product systems and infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to and share ownership of the tasks relating to planning, installation, configuration, documentation and operation of production test facilities as dictated by the product and service release schedules
  • Contribute to and share ownership of tasks relating to planning, installation, configuration, documentation and operation of Medidata Hosted Operations Information Technology infrastructure.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan, implement, configure, manage and document SAN or other server/network base storage solutions.
  • Validate and tune monitoring thresholds for critical production systems/environments for within the Hosted IT Production environment.
  • Triage, troubleshoot and repair system failures related to common third-party applications, Server configurations, SAN technology, Server/Network storage devices and Datacenter class peripheral equipment.
  • Identify server configuration and/or performance irregularities, develop procedures to respond to these irregularities in a timely documented manner
  • Create and maintain documentation related to Production test facilities systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensure that Production Test systems are properly monitored and that alerts regarding infrastructure outages are addressed in a timely manner.     
  • On a daily basis., work toward installing, configuring, monitoring, securing and managing all functions/ Services technologies as required by IT Validation and Testing  SOP*s and or related procedures.
  • Work directly with vendor support contacts to resolve any technical problem affecting the delivery of IT Validation services and or uptime related to SAN technology, Servers, Networks, storage, peripheral equipment and software/application solutions.
  • Work with production and corporate  networking staff to determine and resolve problems affecting  IT Validation Services and/or Medidata internal end-users.
  • Interact with numerous system platforms in a multi-layered client server environment.
  • Ensure IT Validation Lab Services interconnect seamlessly with diverse systems including file servers, email servers, print servers, application servers, and administrative systems.
  • Train and mentor IT colleagues related to IT Validation  *Standard Operating Procedures*, approved technologies and day-to-day operations of IT Validation responsibilities.
  • Recommend and/or perform upgrades on systems to ensure uptime.
  • Read and demonstrate understanding of all IT Validation quality systems Documentation specifically organizational *Standard Operating Procedures* (SOP) and *Work Instructions*.
  • Abide by *Change Control Procedures*.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Continually work toward the enhancement existing Hosted Operations documentation and processes.
  • Respond and contribute to, and perform for, both Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery circumstances relating to planned and unplanned events.
  • Actively participate in scheduled *Off-Hour Operations*, *Weekend Work* and *On-Call Rotation Shifts*.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor*s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3 to 5 years experience as a System Engineer in a Windows Server environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including via telephone.
  • Ability to handle vendor or interdepartmental relations as, called for when leading or directly involved in technology project implementation or support.
  • Must demonstrate strong understanding of Networking including, TCP/IP, DNS and subnetting.
  • High level of knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 Operating Systems.
  • Strong performance tuning and capacity planning experience.
  • Effectively participate and provide 24 x 7 production support on a rotating basis or when called upon.
  • Ability to work in as team, coordinate a group effort or deliver individually.
  • Must be able to perform effectively in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining a high level of service.
  • Strong commitment to quality and delivery, operational excellence and customer support.
  • Analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly.
  • Perform efficiently and affectively with all assigned Projects/Tasks; only requiring management interaction during critical decision-making events.
  • Must demonstrate a familiarity with current IT concepts pertaining common production applications, e.g. Microsoft (MS) Operating Systems, MS Exchange, Enterprise Anti-Virus Solutions, Data Archiving, Backup/Restore Architecture Asset/inventory management and System Monitoring concepts.
  • Ability to provide *Follow the Sun Support* for global Datacenters, branch offices and Medidata global user community.
  • The ability to lift and handle packages/hardware with the approximate weight of 50 pounds or more.
  • 20 - 30% travel may be required in order to support global Datacenters and branches.
