Senior User Experience Designer, Amazon Industrial & Scientific

Overview

The Amazon Industrial & Scientific Team is seeking a talented, passionate Senior User Experience Designer to help us create a world-class shopping experience for industrial & scientific products on www.SmallParts.com . We're looking for a highly motivated person with proven user interface and visual design skills to create elegant, intuitive user interfaces that meet business needs and influence future product direction. Candidate must be willing to work collaboratively with the product management and software engineering teams to bring ideas from concept to launch.

Responsibilities

  • Create beautiful designs and functional, user-centered interfaces that meet business requirements while minimizing friction in the industrial shopping experience
  • Design the interface and interaction flow of new site features, and redesigns of existing functionality
  • Develop and maintain detailed use cases and user-interface specifications to support the business requirements
  • Create wireframes and mockups, and present them to the product and software teams for review and feedback
  • Provide leadership in the area of ecommerce website design and user interface trends
  • Maintain the visual identity / design elements of the SmallParts.com brand on the site


Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar role, preferably for high-end retail web sites
  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
  • A portfolio of relevant work samples
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively to a variety of audiences
  • Experience working collaboratively with business people and software developers
  • Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques
  • Familiarity with the technical considerations needed when designing for the web
  • Proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, and Dreamweaver
  • Ability to prototype in HTML, CSS and Javascript is a strong plus; AJAX a plus
