The Senior Web Designer must be an independent, self-motivated, creative professional with a passion for interactive design and an understanding of web usability. Under the general supervision of the Director of Web Strategy and Online Marketing, leads the design effort for Websense global websites, intranet, customer and partner portals, and other online projects. Provides ongoing website design, analysis, maintenance, and development to continually monitor and improve website design and functionality. Must have a refined design approach and expert use of typography and composition. Use web analytics to inform design.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for creative design, from development of concepts through HTML programming for the company’s global Internet and Intranet sites.
• Develops, maintains, and creates website content, HTML and other programming for corporate Internet and Intranet sites.
• Responsible for owning the online style guide and working with Creative Services to maintain consistency of design and brand identity across all websites and interactive design projects.
• Manage design direction for corporate website, including front-end usability / user experience and the effectiveness of information architecture.
• Create demos, intros and other interactive projects using Flash or similar technology.
• Work closely with internal clients to turn business objectives into customer-focused deliverables to be tested and refined.
• Work closely with internal IT resources to ensure successful technical hand-off and deployment of content.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science, Marketing, Communication or related discipline from an accredited college or university required.
• An exceptional understanding of fundamental web site usability best practices, standards compliant design, cross browser compatibility and user interface design.
• 8+ years of hands-on web design experience with proven understanding of interface design principles. Must be capable of  managing all phases of online design from concept to creation and deployment.
• Knowledge of current trends in website development and the tools necessary to build online and interactive projects.
• Extensive hands-on experience using creative tools, including: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and Dreamweaver. Additional design applications and/or technologies a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of presentation-layer technologies, including HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, and CSS required. Working Knowledge of .NET and PHP.
• Demonstrated project management skills within cross-functional marketing and technical teams.
• Able to work in a collaborative creative environment.
• Highly organized with the ability to multi-task to meet tight deadlines and schedules as required.
• Successful track record of taking high-profile projects from concept to completion.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
