The Windows System Engineer’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize Microsoft Windows servers and related components to achieve and
maintain high performance of business applications. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring new implementations,
and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. This position shares responsibility for the security, integrity,
and safety of the data center/server farm. Scope of responsibilities include server hardware, Windows Server operating systems, core Microsoft back office technologies, and 3rd party infrastructure software and applications.
Develops Procedures and Tasks Instructions as appropriate for installation and administration of systems.Establishes and maintains standard configurations for Windows Server systems. Installs and configures Windows Server systems. Installs Windows Server software releases and patches; and performs change management.Maintains system security and related security related events in accordance with client's security requirements. Responsibilities (under limited supervision):
Based on direction and vision of IT management, research and develop tactical and strategic infrastructure solutions to solve key business requirements and objectives.
Using industry-standard best practice hardware and software implementation methodologies, develop detailed pilot and implementation plans for lab, QA, production, and DR environments.
Manage and work in project groups consisting of various team members.
Provide full-lifecycle Project Management based on company PMO standards.
Develop infrastructure project proposals and overviews for both executive and technical teams.
Maintain system architecture documentation library.
Provide 3rd level support for Windows operations. Additionally, participate in the trending of incidents to identify tactical and strategic solutions for resolution.
Review, define and document optimal operational procedures for Windows operations.
Analyze manual system administration tasks and work to develop automated solutions.
Participate in system monitoring, performance monitoring and tuning
Experience and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
Minimum 7 years of professional experience required. Position requires extensive experience designing, implementing, and supporting at least 3 of the
following core competencies:
Leading industry server hardware solutions and virtualization technologies for Windows operating systems
Experience planning, implementing, managing and supporting HP server solutions including ML, DL, and BL systems. Experience with automated hardware
and Windows OS deployment solutions (Altiris, BladeLogic).
Experience planning, implementing, managing and supporting virtual server solutions including VMware ESX and ESXi. Experience with developing
strategies
for automated, rapid-deployment of virtual machines required. Experience implementing and supporting VMware HA, DRS and FT services.
Experience leveraging virtualization solutions for disaster recovery.
Active Directory Services
Experience planning, implementing, managing, and supporting medium and large scale AD deployments. Thorough understanding of Active Directory Sites
and Services, Group Policy implementation and management strategies, as well as core dependent services including DNS, WINS, and LDAP. The ability
to access, modify, and report on Active Directory infrastructure using scripting technologies is highly desired. Understanding of Active Directory Security and Delegation of Administration strategies required.
Experience planning and implementing third party management/workflow tools to delegate and manage AD highly desired.
An understanding of ADSI and PowerShell scripting is highly desired.
Exchange and Messaging Services
Experience planning, implementing, managing, and supporting medium and large-scale Exchange 2003/2007/2010 deployments. Thorough understanding
of Exchange sites and routing designs. Experience designing and managing Exchange data management solutions including quota and archiving solutions
highly desired. Understanding of Exchange security technologies including anti-spam, anti-virus, client and server encryption technologies highly desired.
Experiencing supporting Exchange journaling solutions required.
Experience with E-mail compliance systems. Computer Associates Message Manager is a plus.
Experience implementing, supporting and upgrading Blackberry Enterprise Server and Good Technology solutions for mobile devices.
Business Continuity and Monitoring Solutions
Experience planning, implementing and supporting Windows disaster recovery solutions using any combination of available technologies such as EMC
SRDF
and DoubleTake data replication with VMware SRM.
Understanding of backup technologies and strategies (tape, backup-disk, EMC BCVs, data-deduplication, etc) highly desired. Experience supporting
leading enterprise backup solutions (Veritas NetBackup) required.
Experience designing, implementing and managing system performance, capacity and availability monitoring with leading vendor tools. IBM Tivoli System Monitoring experience preferred.
Windows Host Security
Experience designing and implementing high-security host policies using Group Policies or 3rd party tools required.
Experience with designing, implementing and supporting patch management solutions required. Experience with WSUS, SCCM and Qualys desired.
Understanding of and experience implementing encryption and key management technologies. This includes experience deploying X.509 Certificate
Services and implementing encryption technologies for data in transit and at rest.
Desktop and Application Access Technologies
Experience implementing and supporting application access technologies using Citrix Presentation Server/XenServer.
Experience with application virtualization technologies and their deployment utilizing leading solutions including Softgrid/Thinstall/Altiris SVS highly desired.
Experience managing Citrix remote access utilizing the Citrix CAG, Web Interface and Advanced Access Control integrated with two factor authentication
