Sharepoint Developer

About the Job

American University’s Office of Information Technology – Enterprise Systems is seeking a qualified Sharepoint Developer to assist in leading the application development of the new American University Active Campus SharePoint portal.

The position will work on most phases of applications development, systems analysis, and programming activities. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in planning, architecting, developing, and implementing the portal.

Experience with high capacity web systems and/or high volume transactions are very beneficial in this key role. The Sharepoint Developer will help guide and support the university’s rapidly growing online portal presence by offering strategies and support for a world-class portal infrastructure. A “hands on” approach, including coding of applications and web parts, is a fundamental facet of this position.

This position will be involved with many areas of development and programming; therefore, the successful candidate will need to exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between focusing on existing versus new applications and between features, architectural improvements, and operational excellence.

A self-starter who insists on creating innovative solutions and has the ability to practically apply best-practice web technologies to meet business objectives will succeed in this role. Experience with enterprise-level SharePoint portal deployments, especially coupled with Datatel Active Campus, is a strong advantage.

 

Position Requirements:

 

=Six years of application design/development and user interface design/development experience.
=Three years of experience using SharePoint.
=Experience working effectively in and fostering highly collaborative, team-oriented environments.
=Experience in a higher education environment preferable.

Required Skills and Abilities:

The Basics: SQL, SharePoint, ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET, AJAX

=Proven track record of Microsoft SharePoint portal development
=Proven track record developing and implementing .Net programming
=Ability to work with COTS applications using Microsoft .NET architecture
=Knowledge of Internet Information Server (IIS)
=Experience in Visual Studio.NET 2003+, and VB.NET / C#.NET languages.

=Knowledge of software development lifecycle
=Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
= Demonstrated ability to function independently as well as work with and/or lead a team in a collaborative environment
=Thorough knowledge of and fluency with current web innovations and technologies
=Understanding of web environments in large IT organizations
=Ability to develop requirements for web projects
=Demonstrated knowledge of information architecture principles and user-centered design principles
=Knowledge of current best practices in web design, usability, and accessibility
=Ability to create and maintain articulate, structured technical documentation

=Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population
=Passion for the Internet

 

Education Requirements:

 

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field, or bachelor's degree in another field and three to five years of progressive programming experience as an application developer, web developer, or software engineer.
