I. TITLE: REGISTERED NURSE
CODE: PRO 909

II. SUMMARY: An employee in this classification, under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor or designee, provides nursing services to individuals served. I

II. DUTIES:

40% Provides professional nursing care to individuals served.
Administers, assists, delegates and/or instructs medications, treatments and enteral feedings in accordance with physicians’ orders.
Changes dressings as needed.
Administers first aid to individuals served as needed.
Assesses vital signs when indicated.
Provides continual follow-up of health-related matters.
Maintains documentation of health-related matters and nursing interventions.
Provides direction to LPN or LPN/Habilitation Technician.
Facilitates and conducts Quality Assessment Reviews in a format prescribed by Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD).
Conducts initial investigation if concerns/complaints result from Quality Assessment Reviews.
Utilizes DODD database to verify nurse and medication administration certifications.
Provides consultation to the Board’s Service and Support Administration and Community Supports Departments. Assists with Delegated Nursing Tasks.
Assists with completion of Level of Care for waiver recipients.
Reviews Individual Service Plan (ISP) Health Services and Supports.
Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, laws and Board policies and procedures.

30% Refers individuals served to outside healthcare providers when necessary and with approval of parents or guardians when appropriate.
Serves as health consultant and interacts with various internal/external persons/agencies.
Prepares and/or contributes to Unusual Incident and Injury/Illness Reports as appropriate.
Determines need to send an individual home or for further medical evaluation/treatment, and contacts provider/guardian as appropriate.

20% Serves as preceptor for nursing internship program(s).
Orients nursing staff and/or temporary nurse(s) to department as needed.
Reports communicable diseases and/or conditions to Nursing Supervisor or designee.
May participate in Behavior Support Committee.
Works with interdisciplinary team in identifying and meeting social, emotional and physical health needs of individuals served.
Monitors and maintains inventory and security of necessary medical supplies and medication.
Develops and provides in-service training on health-related subjects.
Attends staff meetings, in-services, conferences, and meetings as appropriate.

10% May provide first aid to staff, volunteers, and/or other visitors on board property.
Assists with OSHA safety regulations and records. Serves on Medical Committee. Serves on safety and/or other committees.
Assists Human Resources with Bureau of Worker’s Compensation (BWC)-related matters for Lott employees and Board employees.
Performs other related duties as required.

IV. EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Health related equipment, such as apnea monitors, mechanical inhalation devices and personal computer, applications software and basic office equipment.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS: Position may involve exposure to individuals with medical and behavioral risks.

VI. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of nursing techniques, practices and procedures. Thorough knowledge of current laws relating to nursing practice and health and medical programming.
Skill in providing professional nursing care in accordance with licensed scope of practice.
Verbal and written communication and instructional skills.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with others.
Knowledge of basic safety principles.
Skill in providing instruction and counseling pertaining to medical issues.
Ability to follow written and verbal direction.

VII. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:
A. Education: Bachelor degree or graduation from a nursing school diploma program.
B. Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

1. Certification: N/A
2. Registration: N/A
3. Licensure: Current license issued by Ohio Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse.

D. Ancillary Training:
a. Professional Rescuer CPR.
b. Specialized Support Resource Book Training.
c. Medication Administration RN Trainer certification.

E. Other: Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Will require evenings and weekends, and locations convenient for individuals and families served.
