Site Manager, Field Service Operations

The Site Manager, Field Service Operations, is responsible for the management and coordination of activities, physical resources, and personnel during total plant outages.  This home-based position also includes responding to changing priorities, assigning overtime, managing schedules, safety and resources. The Site Manager will provide leadership to ALSTOM supervisors, or supervise ALSTOM staff and contract labor engaged in a variety of field service activities related to a total plant outage.  
 
Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule and assign work considering project and customer requirements, priorities and resources available to cost-effectively achieve objectives, ensure quality, and continuously improve performance.

  • Oversee activities, anticipate and respond effectively to problems in order to eliminate or reduce adverse impact.

  • Lead the ALSTOM site organization with the objective to execute ALSTOM's contractual obligations.

  • Ensure satisfactory execution of the project at site with regard to safety, schedule, cost and contractual obligations.

  • Detect and immediately report any deviations of targets well in advance, to plan corrective actions and enforce them.

  • Ensure that equipment is properly maintained, employees are properly trained, and work is performed in accordance with health and safety requirements.

  • Resolve or coordinate resolution of highly complex technical problems and human resources issues. 

  • Apply various measuring techniques to evaluate the group's performance in such areas as quality of work and responsiveness to customers' requirements. 

  • Recommend the development and introduction of alternative methods to more effectively accomplish objectives. 

  • Prepare and ensure adherence to departmental budgets.

  • Provide administrative support to senior managers and advise staff regarding the more complex aspects of their assignments. 

  • Manage and document employee performance and implement responsive actions. 

  • Direct or assist in providing direction to crafts people.

  • Work non-standard schedules at off-site locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.

  • Provide daily reports to home office and senior management, in regards to the project execution, work progress and schedule references.

  • Provide the necessary data, to generate weekly cost reports and monitor costs associated with the designated projects budget.  Such monitoring may include variance reports, invoice approvals, labor productivity and cost reports

  • Provide the principal interface between customer and ALSTOM, by representing ALSTOM in a professional and competent manner.

  • Develop customer contacts and, in conjunction with other support groups, establish strategies for obtaining new business and achieving financial and technical objectives. 

  • Prepare or provide input for proposals and make recommendations on such matters as specifications, equipment, procedures and technical documents. 

  • Consult with other groups such as Business Development to provide advance information on potential business opportunities and collaborate in efforts to win contracts.

  • Promote, develop and implement measures to improve operations and customer relations.

  • Assist senior managers with administrative and support duties as required.


Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related field highly preferred.

  • Alternatively, will consider a special combination of education and required experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • A minimum of 8 years in the Power Generation industry working in Field Service operations responsible for management and/or coordination of plant outages is required

  • Experience with ALSTOM turbines and generators is highly desired 

  • Familiarity with technical drawings relating to turbine and/or generator components required

  • Knowledge in design, function and operation of gas/steam turbine and/or generators

  • Knowledge of field service operations and ability to independently resolve highly complex problems

  • Knowledge of personal computers and the Microsoft Office® operating systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and Lotus Notes

  • Knowledge of Primavera software, MS Projects and other industry standard scheduling packages

  • Ability to manage a skilled and diverse staff, communicate effectively, represent the group, act decisively and influence decisions is required

  • Ability to anticipate problems and recognize opportunities for cost-effectively improving operations is required

  • Ability to work non-standard schedules at any location with possible varying environmental conditions required

  • Strong organization and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Good time management skills

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • A self-starter who can operate with minimal instruction.

  • Must be in possession of a valid passport.

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record

  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background check, drug screening and physical exam required 

  • Ability to work in the US without any further action from an employer required 

  • Ability to travel up to 100% is required
