Small Business Underwriter

Key Responsibilities
Underwrites Commercial risks, including selection/rejection of new and renewal business
Depending on assignment may also market the company's product and services through a producer
Develops and maintains agency relationships
Evaluate, select, classify and rate each risk; establish standards of coverage and amount of protection offered.
Underwriter accounts, sell to agents, negotiate price and decline submissions which do not meet company standards.
Price and sell/retain acceptable risks.
Participate in field office underwriting and producer reviews.

Key Requirements/Skills/Experience
3-5 years experience as an underwriter
Knowledge of the insurance industry, company strategy and processes
Knowledge of Commercial Insurance products, coverages, and underwriting practices
Knowledge of Book/agent/territory management
Knowledge of quality reviews and standards; competitive landscape; and metrics and analytics
Solid decision making skills
Experience with process/procedures and systems/technology
Demonstrated sales and negotiation skills
Experience with the application of regulatory and legal rules and processes
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and present
Experience with risk acceptability analysis and decision making
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to manage competing priorities
Experience with resolving conflict, recommending solutions and influencing skills
Analytical skills to grasp complex issues and present to others
Ability to evaluate financial reports and recognize positive/negative indicators.
