Position Description:
The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an experienced Small Commercial Lines Sales Manager in our Columbus, Ohio office.

Position Overview:

That’s why, at the Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., we collaborate with our agents to develop fast, flexible, and custom-tailored solutions designed to meet the unique insurance needs for our Small Commercial Clients.

Reporting to the Commercial Lines Regional Vice President, the Small Commercial Sales Manager (SCSM) champions the Small Commercial strategy locally at the point of sale, and partners with our best agents to produce consistent, expected, and profitable results, primarily focused on accounts under $25k.

Responsibilities:
  • Authority to bind, and ability to underwrite and process accounts at point of sale or in office.
  • Develop effective relationships with internal sources (e.g. Agency Services Manager, CL Team, Sales etc.) to ensure territory-specific needs are effectively communicated and leveraged for small commercial business.
  • Direct responsibility for business cultivation/sales management (in the agent’s office), and key renewal involvement including travel time.
  • Knowledge of the current business and economic conditions, industry trends, competition and territory specific issues.
  • Small Commercial Team business plan management.
  • Allocate or draw upon resources to generate higher levels of profitable production from the top performing agencies.
  • Establish and maintaining close working relationships with agency plant to produce small commercial line new business and drive flow.
  • Provide education and training to agency team members as needed.
  • Ask for business, reinforce company appetite, and find opportunities.
  • Build small business sales and profit objectives, and identify the agent’s service expectations. Plant seeds for Agency Services .
  • Work in close constant interaction and partnership with the small commercial line underwriting team, particularly the Small Account Underwriter, and participate in team meetings.
  • Develop territory business plans aligned with regional business plans. Utilize reports to assist in planning.
  • Proactively resolves problems and anticipate issues that affect small business production and loss ratio objectives.
  • Handle agency appointments and terminations, as appropriate.

    Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Commercial Lines Underwriting and/ or Marketing experience preferably with an established carrier.
  • Well developed sales and marketing skills; proven track record for developing new business.
  • Professional designation such as CPCU, CIC, etc., is a plus.
  • Occasional overnight travel.

    Computer Skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn internal Customer & Agency Account Management systems.
