Role Summary/Purpose The Smart Grid Asset Optimization / Workforce Engineering Systems Engineer will work in partnership with the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) System Engineer (T&D SE) to create new systems for both the Asset Optimization (AO) and the Workforce Engineering Design Optimization (WEDO) focus areas. In this role you will architect AO system offerings for optimization and reliability markets, and WEDO offerings for optimizing Smart Grid design, planning, construction, and mobile workforce.
Essential Responsibilities Utilize your recognized domain expertise in asset management, geographic information systems (GIS), workforce management, and your ability to translate and drive functional system requirements into executable system concepts, and to identify the alternatives to bring those concepts to reality Utilize your high level of creativity, you will be a top technical contributor for the advancement of the ES Smart Grid business Work with the T&D, SE, customers, strategic marketing, other GE entities and 3rd parties, & Energy Services Engineering (ESE) Systems Engineering to define the automation system requirements for new T&D network reliability systems. Stay abreast with current & emerging technologies & industry needs Collect & maintain an inventory of technologies from GE and major competitors identifying the technical & market advantages between competitors and GE Develop action plans to anticipate & respond to WEDO and AO system issues in existing system designs Identify current gaps & future game changing technologies Document & maintain the WEDO and AO system strategies in multi-generation plans (MGPP & MGTP) Drive interoperability framework, utilizing established & emerging standards, between system components including interoperability with competitor system components Actively search for and apply synergies within the GE businesses to share & reuse control system technologies, processes, & best practices Participate in tollgate reviews to insure that the system requirements are being met. Introduce & preserve intellectual property for GE. Drive the development & enforcement of key design practices Participate in industry standards bodies in the area of WEDO and AO
Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Power Systems, or Software Engineering Minimum 4 years of Electric T&D technical industry experience Minimum 4 years combined technical experience in GIS, Asset Management, and Workforce Management Minimum 2 years technical leadership experience in GIS, Asset Management, or Workforce Management Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work. Desired Characteristics Strong understanding of the global Utility T&D technical requirements as well as global regulatory requirements for Utility T&D systems History of systems engineering programs or programs requiring integrated architecture management across multiple product lines, especially involving key concepts of AO and WEDO Specific, industry recognized (published) expertise in GIS, Asset Management, or Workforce Management Firm understanding of the product development process for high-tech systems products, including external execution alternatives Demonstrated success in leading technical teams and individuals in a matrix organization Proficient computer user skills including design and simulation tools as well as standard documentation and communication tools Superior analytical skills and communication (written and oral) skills Experience and expertise in multiple engineering disciplines including electronic design, embedded software design and mechanical engineering Black Belt Certification (GE employees only) Strong understanding of the global Utility T&D commercial market, customer practices and preferences as well as competitors of GE Deep experience with the design of T&D system components and in particular, network reliability system components Strong understanding of business processes such as NPI, Multi-Generation product planning, financial processes & planning, organizational reviews Experience in dealing with vendors and competitors of equipment, services, and products in the T&D field Currently active in standards bodies in the T&D field or related industries Proven success at working with senior engineering leaders and driving change in that environmentWhy join one great company when you can join many?
