Role Summary/Purpose
The GE (T&D) Transmission and Distribution Engineering team is responsible for design, sustaining and issue resolution of T&D product line for Smart Grid sub-station automation, smart meters, and transformer monitoring and diagnostics. The Smart Grid Lead Software Engineer will be focused on the developing of new applications as well as integration and communications between these system, sub-systems and the smart grid backbone.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop applications for Smart Grid applications for use by utility customers and end users
  • Work jointly with integrated GE T&D- HTC (India) / U.S design teams
  • Design, development & testing of firmware/software systems
  • Development of new and existing applications and interfaces using Java, .NET
  • Develop conceptual designs and detailed designs in accordance with established engineering processes, submit design code for reviews, and update the designs as required as a result from reviews
  • Develop new technology relevant to the industry and T&D products and identify ways to apply that technology in new products
  • Resolve field issues and quality issues through analysis and design changes
  • Create required design documentation as per NPI Guidelines

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • BS or MS degree in Engineering
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in Design & Development using object oriented programming languages
  • At least 5 years of experience in Java or .Net programming
  • At least 5 years of experience in development (including the following areas): - Building interfaces between hardware and software - Open source package integration
  • At least one year of experience with CIM and its application to system integration and development
  • At least 4 years of experience in Development & Debugging Tools such as Simulators
  • At least 3 years of experience in protocols (Modbus, DNP, IEC61850, IEC60870, etc)

    Desired Characteristics
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science
  • Familiar with UML, XSD, XML, and WSDL
  • Experience in Java, SOA, and CIM
  • Ability to energize, develop, and build rapport at all levels within an organization
  • Capacity of listening (end users), and synthesizing needs understanding in a multi-cultural environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tenacity and patience to develop long-term customer relationships
  • Organized, ability to multi-task and stay organized
  • High energy, self-starter, with a proven track record in delivering results
  • Green Belt Certified (GE employees only)
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to guide multiple parts of a matrix organization to the achievement of one vision
  • Strong understanding of SDLC process
  • Should possess strong written and verbal communication skills
