DESCRIPTION:
Duties: The Senior Outreach Coordinator for the National Children's Study Vanguard Center is based in Duplin County, NC and will plan, coordinate, and implement community outreach and engagement activities to inform Duplin County residents about the National Children's Study (NCS). This person will report to the NCS Project Manager for Duplin County based in Chapel Hill. He/she will collaborate with other NCS staff to strategize and plan outreach activities to reach potential study participants. Activities include delivering presentations about the Study and staffing an information table about the NCS at community events. Some of these activities occur during evenings and weekends. He/she will document outreach activities and community resources using computer databases developed by site staff. Being an effective team member is crucial to the success of the outreach component of the project as is being self-motivating and able to work in an off-site location with limited day-to-day supervision. A minimum of two years previous experience in community relations, community outreach in human services, or other community work is strongly preferred. Experience supporting scientific research activities and experience with undocumented residents and people from a variety of cultural backgrounds are strongly preferred. Customer service experience, public speaking and presentation skills, and ability to generate interest about a program or product are also strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge of Duplin County, be able to work independently, be receptive to guidance from supervisor located 100 miles away, and have ability to represent study to community with professionalism.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Qualified applicants will have good computer skills, good written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills, and a current North Carolina driver's license. Travel throughout Duplin County and in neighboring counties is required. Working knowledge of research principles, including study design, systematic data collection, protecting confidentiality of participants, and adherence to study protocols is required. Position/Work Schedule Requirements: M-F 830 – 500. Overtime, evening andweekend work occasionally. Valid NC Driver's License.
