Senior Software Architect & Developer (Java)

Information Systems

I           BASIC FUNCTION

Assist with the development and maintenance of the IT Strategic Plan and assume primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of CBC-developed client/server based applications.

II         MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

A.     Work with IT Director to develop and maintain the Strategic IT Plan for CBC.

1.      Develop and maintain inventory of CBC’s Java and Notes-based applications.

2.      Work with users and other staff developers to create a set of standards for software development and/or enhancements.

3.      Determine resources needed to support CBC’s identified needs and develop plan to provide same using CBC employees and 3^rd party service providers as needed.

B.     Architect and design, supervise development resources for, and participate in the hands-on development and maintenance of CBC’s major application initiatives in Java and Lotus Notes.

C.     Manage the implementation and on-going support of Business Intelligence and Business Planning initiatives, especially in relation to solutions for a modern Barge Tracking System.

D.     Help promote effective use of all I.T. applications.

1.      Provide support to users when needed.

2.      Maintain active relationships with key internal customers to understand how they use CBC applications.

3.      Provide system upgrades when appropriate to help increase user productivity and ease of use of CBC applications.

E.      Serve as an active member of and advisor to the Knowledge Management Technology Committee.

F.      Communicate status of projects to and perform other projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President/Director of Information Systems.

G.     Carry out the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, and Mission of Canal Barge Company, Inc.

III        RELATIONSHIP

The Senior Software Architect & Developer (Java) reports to the Assistant Vice President/Director of Information Systems and regularly interacts with users of CBC-developed applications and other Information Systems personnel.

IV        EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

·        Strong Java background – minimum of 5 years work experience as a senior developer of Java applications. 8-10 years of total work experience in the programming environment is preferred.

·        Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master’s degree in Computer Science and/or relevant experience is preferred.

·        Must have strong background in Product Management, consisting of architectural design and defining user requirements for internal enterprise applications, and must be able to code to specifications.

·        Experience with Lotus Notes and/or Java programming on the IBM iSeries/AS400 environment is helpful.

·        Should be familiar with the following types of technologies: JAVA SE and J2EE, C#, .Net, Eclipse, SQL, LotusScript, SVN, Hibernate, Struts, and JSF.

·        Required traits: strong leadership and management skills, strong in organizing and managing projects, good customer service orientation, initiative, teamwork.
