Software Compatibility Test Technician (PC/Networking)

VOLT currently has a long term contract opportunity for a Software Compatibility Test Technician to work at a world leading semiconductor company in South Austin. Using company standard test procedures, the individual selected for this role will perform various hardware and software diagnostics in order to determine functional issues/failures on laptops, desktops, and server systems. Will be responsible for capturing and reporting failures to engineering and debug teams through the use of various internal hardware test tools, internal and 3rd party software utilities. Excellent written communications are essential for this position in order to document very detailed descriptions of the failures seen and properly recorded into the database.

Requirements:
* 4+ PC Validation/Testing experience, with good analytical and troubleshooting skills
Must have strong knowledge and principles of PC Architecture in order to troubleshoot hardware compatibility issues - PC x86 Architecture Experience; system level knowledge of the following subsystems: Memory, PC Buses, CPU/Processor, Chipset
* Preferred Operating System Requirements (Install, Setup, Configure and Troubleshoot): Linux Operating Systems (RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu, Fedora) and Microsoft Windows Operating Systems (2008 Srv, 2003 Srv, Vista, XP, Win7)
* Configure and change BIOS settings including flashing BIOS using ROM burners or other utilities
* Extensive networking experience is beneficial in order to configure network services, protocols, switches, etc..
* Strong Organizational Skills - plan, prioritize, and manage assigned workload, can efficiently execute multiple project at the same time.
* PC Hardware setup and configuration; install and configure processors, hard drives, network Cards, memory, etc.
* Preferred experience in multi-core/multi-processor platforms (workstations, servers, etc..)
* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed technical instructions (ie test procedures).
* Read and understand motherboard schematics – able to locate components on the motherboard, based on the schematic info.
