Software Design Engineer in Test - Hardware

This team is looking for a Software Design Engineer in Test who loves new gadgets and has strong experience in testing software on the Windows platform. This position will be focused on creating test tools and test automation for of a new class of product being developed. This is a v1.0 project so the information about this new product is still confidential; the manager will expand on project details once a candidate gets hired.

This team owns the testing of all software shipped along our devices. Our software supports and adds value to devices such as keyboards, mice, and webcams; this includes user mode applications to use and configure our devices and all required kernel mode drivers. Team members have the chance to work with innovative and revolutionary new products and prototypes.

Responsibilities: The candidate will own testing one or more software features associated to this product, which are mostly written in C/C++. She/he will have to work closely with developers to determine how and what to test and mainly focus on white box and grey box testing. Core responsibilities are design and development of test automations in C#. Other responsibilities may include but not limited to: automation libraries, test tool development, defect reporting, troubleshooting and tool documentation. The expectation is that a large part of the time will be spent coding, with a minority amount of time spent in conducting manual testing.

Additional Tasks/Requirements:

Testing

• Conduct manual and automated testing for assigned areas/features.


• Drive test strategy and development for multiple features or components.


• Able to work with Developers to ensure code testability.


• Participate in design reviews and iteration planning meetings.


• Strong debugging skills.

Tooling and Automation

• Strong tooling knowledge and experience in test tool design


• Very strong experience in developing and debugging automated test cases

Coding

• 4+ years in C/C++


• Minimum 2 year C#


• Strong understanding of advanced data structures and algorithms


• Win32 experience required


• COM experience a strong plus

Soft skills

• Demonstrated technical leadership, great communication skills and a history of technical problem solving skills and critical thinking.


• Experience shipping large or many components to internal and external customers.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Must able to work independently.


• Experience testing over the entire development cycle a plus

Education/Degrees

• 4 year Computer Science/Engineering degree or equivalent related working experience

Additional Qualifications (Not required but a definite plus)

• Test of kernel, device driver and Embedded software


• Hardware/Firmware testing


• Experience with test automation tools


• DirectX test experience
