Job Description
This is a key database development position in MSA’s largest division. The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Design and development of Analysis Services OLAP cubes for multiple production environments
- Troubleshoot multiple production environments
- Perform R&D on new functionality
- Serve as an in-house expert with this technology
- Assist with developing customized functionality for MSA’s proprietary reporting application that relies on Analysis Services datasets
Required Skills
- Four-year degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, Computer/Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Minimum three years of experience in software and/or OLAP DB programming, addressing unique issues of architecture and data management
- Minimum two years of experience with Microsoft’s SQL Server Analysis Services OLAP engine, including: designing cubes, optimizing for build efficiency, optimizing for query efficiency, working directly within the BIDS interface, and working with it programmatically
- Strong MDX querying skills and SQL querying skills, preferably in an Oracle environment
- Clear understanding of, and experience in, data warehouse modeling. Including star-schema and snow-flake schema designs and dimensional and fact table modeling concepts
- Experience in development and performance tuning related to large data volume
- Knowledge of relational databases, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Unix operating system
- Knowledge and experience of all aspects of the software development process
- Experience working in integrated product development team environment
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, with a focus on the ability to write functional and technical specification
- Experience in relational databases (particularly Oracle and PL/SQL), UNIX and LINUX environments, and OLAP reporting tools desired
- .Net, C#, and MS Reporting Services desired
- Ability to work independently, but also in other situations closely with other peer developers, QA team members, and production support members on complex development tasks is essential
- Ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with Microsoft’s Analysis Services engine; be familiar with advanced tuning techniques for cube builds and querying; have expertise with both the MDX query language and SQL querying
