SunGard Availability Services is an operating group of SunGard Data Systems.
The Software Engineer serves as a key leader within the Product Development group, serving as a project lead for individual software development projects. They are responsible for the development of solutions that integrate commercial software into other systems and platforms, with a primary focus on systems that support IT Service Management, Data Center Automation, Fault Management, Performance Management and other IT infrastructure systems. In this complex role, the Software Engineer is expected to be able to work within numerous development platforms and languages, with experience in multiple integration standards and design patterns. The Software engineer will be responsible for communicating project status; project risks and mitigation strategies; and project dependencies to project constituents.
* Owning and leading the development of individual software development projects.
* Ensuring that projects are executed with a high level of technical excellence; with demonstrable functional and technical quality; and within allotted timeframes.
* Working closely with other members of the Product Development team, CTO management team and project stakeholders from other SunGard AS departments.
* The position requires the person to utilize their advanced level of computer science knowledge across multiple development environments and languages (.NET, JAVA, Python) to develop integrations between COTS packages deployed in our environment.
* The Software Engineer will participate in architectural decision making processes for the various technical platforms, and be responsible for research into new technologies and platforms pertinent to the application portfolio.
* Coordinate software development efforts with the architectural work of our Engineers tasked with selecting and configuring the COTS packages
Qualifications / Skills Required:
* College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent
* 3 yrs experience in Software Development utilizing at least three of the following languages: .NET, Java, Perl, C++ and/or Python
* Knowledge of Object-Oriented design and analysis and the application of design patterns
* Strong knowledge of relation database technologies and data modeling.
* Knowledge of proper programming practice including revision control, application of secure coding principles, unit testing, test first development methodology, documentation.
* Knowledge of integration design patterns and practices.
* Experience working with at least two of the following: COM+, SOAP Web Services, RESTful Web Services, CORBA, WCF, .NET Remoting, Ruby on Rails
* Knowledge of web-services utilizing Apache Tomcat/Axis.
* Experience working with the Spring Framework and Hibernate.
* Experience working with the Eclipse IDE.
* Working knowledge of XML and schema design.
* Proficiency with Unix, Linux and Windows environments.
* Ability to multi-task in a highly technical fast paced environment.
* Must be a self-starter
* Strong verbal and written communications skills
* Experience developing Groovy scripts a plus
* Experience working with Drools and / or JBoss a plus
