Software Engineer – Infrastructure

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Analyze customer and internal statements of requirements for new or enhanced systems
• Help identify opportunities to improve the design and/or implementation of integrated solutions.
• Participate in the production of: alternative designs and assess ‘best fit’ solutions with particular regard to conforming to Reuters process and technical standards, as well as meeting the parameters of performance, reliability, time to market and costs (development, operational, support).
• Participate with others in the development, testing and implementation of integrated solutions
• Produce documentation according to current process standards (e.g. requirements, design, functional specifications, release notes, operations guides, test plans etc.).
• Participate in meetings to identify and solve problems before, during and post implementation.
• Participate in the planning process to create project implementation plans.
• Develop and integrate applications per written specifications. May be responsible for writing basic design specifications.
• Translate technical requirements into application code and modules.
• Make modifications to existing software applications and modules in accordance with written specifications and industry standards.
• Develop software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
• Unit test and implement application modules, ensuring application meets the needs of the client and business.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

• BS Degree in CS, Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years C/C++ development experience
• 3+ years Windows OS or Sun Solaris experience
• Proficiency in OO design and programming
• Development experience in a multi-threaded, multi-CPU environment
• Experience in a high volume, real-time transaction based environment
• Ability to solve complex problems in a real-time production environment
• Excellent written and oral communications skills (English)
• Experience in development using IP based networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP), exposure to any middle-ware is a plus.
• Proven ability to manage priorities, manage multiple environments and business crises.
• Experience in dealing with high-availability production systems including minimizing risks in maintenance / support / installations / troubleshooting.
