Software Engineer

VML Insurance Programs, administrator of group self insurance programs (W/C, Liability & Property) for Virginia local governments, is seeking a highly qualified software developer to join the technology department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Work with the Project Management and Technology departments to design, code, test and document new applications and concepts relating to internal and web-based applications

·        Understand and support current internal system architecture

·        Create and maintain transaction and database-oriented applications

·        Communicate effectively with non-technical staff during project design and testing phases.

·        Interact with both the organization and technology departments for seamless organizational continuity.

·        Perform complex and technical design, development, implementation, and business integration for internal applications.

·        Write technical specifications and other documentation as part of project plans.

·        Develop real time applications for internal staff through the intranet and for members through VMLIP website.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

·        Requires a BS in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience

·        2+ years of Java

·        2+ years of MySQL

·        2+ years of work experience in software development

·        Experience with SQL Server 2005/2008, XML, and .NET Framework.

·        Familiarity with software development and testing best practices

·        Excellent problem-solving skills

·        Able to work effectively in small project teams
