Description:
Job Title: Software/Firmware Engineer
Location: Loveland CO
Duration: Direct
Pay: $80-$85K DOE

Volt Technical Resources is seeking a Software Engineer who also possesses an embedded firmware background. The Software Engineering position requires a person skilled in the development and support of embedded firmware and PC software within analytical instrumentation products.

Essential Functions:
•90% of this position will be a sustaining role maintaining and evolving existing products.
•Specify, design, code, and test software/firmware for analytical instruments.
•Participate in the design and documentation of software/firmware architecture.
•Support design of instrument user interface
•Assist in hardware development as it pertains to embedded software.
•Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain embedded software applications.
•Strong understanding of hardware I/O and embedded systems.
•Basic understanding of hardware and low-level kernel software development.
•Basic understanding of communication interfaces such as RS232, TCP/IP, USB, Modbus.
•Develop software simulation/demo applications as required.
•Develop automated and manual test tools for embedded software/firmware.
•Participates in the testing process through test plan writing and hands-on testing and performance validation.
•Develop software algorithms and data structures as required.
•Work with new product development teams including electrical engineers, software engineers, chemists, scientists, marketing, and project leaders in the development of instrumentation.
•Work with marketing and product development teams to write instruction manuals and review sales literature.
•Work with new product development project teams providing software test support.
•Work with Product technical support teams to provide customer support.
•Work with manufacturing to provide product and test system support.
•Work with external sub-contract resources, coordinate their activities.

Other Non-Essential Functions:
•Mentors junior engineers.
•DBS and Cross-Functional advocate
•Personal contacts are with individuals or groups from inside and outside the company in a moderately unstructured setting. The purpose is to plan, coordinate, or advise on work efforts or to resolve operating problems by influencing or motivating individuals or groups



Requirements:
Education, Background and Skill Requirements
•BS with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of directly relevant experience or a MS with a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant experience.
•GUI Design and Implementation.
•Working experience in Microsoft Visual C# 2.0 / 3.0.
•Detailed knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically Design Controls/Product Realization) and related requirements.
•Detailed understanding of software development methodologies for commercial products.
•Strong background in embedded firmware design and coding.
•Strong background in software modeling and design.
•Excellent knowledge of software programming languages and tools required by project.

•Working experience in .Net Framework and .Net Compact framework 2.0 / 3.5
•Background in Communications Software would be very helpful.
•Working experience in Microsoft Visual C++
•Working experience in implementation of Embedded C/C++
•Good knowledge in Real Time Operating Systems.
•Good knowledge in Development of Applications in Multi-Threaded environment.
•Good knowledge in Windows CE architecture.
•Source Gear Vault or Microsoft Source Safe.
•Platform Builder (Desired)
