Description: JobSummary: As a Software Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for participating in the development, testing and debugging of operating systems and file systems that run NetApp storage applications. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market. Software engineers focus on enhancements to existing products as well as new product development. Essential Functions: - A major part of your responsibility will be to participate in any and/or all phases of the product development cycle from product definition and design, through implementation including: - Testing - Test automation - Debugging - Reliability - Performance analysis - Critical and/or high visibility customer support - As part of a team, you will lead and participate in technical discussions within the immediate group and across functions, where evaluating and executing design and development plans for products are reviewed. - You will have direct influence on the decisions and outcomes related to project direction. Qualifications: Requirements: - Qualified candidate will have 5+ years experience (8+ years preferred) in object oriented programming. - Strong experience in C++ (5+ years), XML (2+ years) and Perl (1+ years) - Experience programming in Unix systems such as FreeBSD, Linux, BSD. - Previous experience building systems management and user interfaces for commercial products. - Previous experience in distributed systems and/or client-server programming. - Previous experience in developing management applications for storage systems -- Previous experience in "Simple Management Framework" desirable. - Must have strong troubleshooting and debugging skills and experience with debugging tools such as gdb, purify, etc. - Must have the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and demonstrate strong influencing and leadership skills - Must have strong verbal and written communications skills. Education & Experience:- A minimum of 8 years of experience is required. 9 to 11 years of experience is preferred. - A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
