Software Engineer - Line of Sight Satellite Communcations (BC-041)
About the Job
Solidus is looking for a Software Engineer with experience with the Sun Solaris Operating System. The ideal candidate will work in the architecture, design and development of control software for next-generation satellite communications payload emulators. Software will be developed primarily using the Sun Solaris operating system. Code will run on commercially available single-board computers, in an embedded environment (running VxWorks), and will control a mix of COTS and proprietary VME digital boards (including DSPs and FPGAs). Development will be performed in a disciplined, collaborative environment, employing modern programming practices, including object-oriented design. Programming will employ inter-process communication, to include the use of socket-based packet communication and modern network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP).
The successful candidate will work on a team involved in a synergistic combination of research, proof-of-concept test beds, and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity, the robustness to interference, and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites, as well as line-of-sight radio communications systems. Current research is concentrating on the design and performance of advanced waveforms (including higher-order signaling constellations and iterative demodulation/decoding), the construction of flexible, adaptive wideband frequency plans, robust acquisition and tracking techniques, dynamic resource-allocation protocols, and advanced networking strategies. Promising research results are verified in hardware/software proof-of-concept implementations that provide quantitative performance data as well as complexity information. The group's system engineering activities apply new concepts and technologies to specific communications programs in the national interest.

- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain secret clearance
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- 3 years embedded software development
- Experience with UNIX/Linux, C++ and object-oriented programming, using modern software development methods
- Familiarity with version control (e.g., ClearCase) and defect tracking (e.g. ClearQuest) systems
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both oral and written,
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced and team-based development environment
