Role Summary/Purpose
The Software Test Engineer will work within engineering team delivering highly automated testing solutions for complex software products. Teams support software development groups carrying out new product introduction and maintenance activities.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Work closely with development and support organizations providing direction on testing activities, reporting on test progress and product readiness
  • Report to the local test lead / manager, will also integrate with peers across a global organization
  • Work in conjunction with engineering and product owner functions to report on product readiness status with respect to test release criteria
  • Work within test development lifecycle, requirements analysis, test development, execution and issue resolution with high emphasis of automated testing
  • Use test management and development tools to deliver automated tests integrated with product development activities
  • Carry out engineering tasks to highest standards, automated testing within coding guidelines, supervisor / peer review
  • Strong supporter of testing initiatives, Six Sigma methodology, and automation processes
  • Work within customer focused testing processes, procedures, and testing metrics
  • Support test lead activities in creating, communicating, driving clear operating and prioritization rhythm for the team
  • Collect, evaluate and publish quality / test metrics and test results to the project team
  • Champion testing approach to other business functions

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science OR high school diploma/GED and a minimum 5 years industry experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in developing software in an agile environment
  • Minimum 1 year experience authoring software for Windows, Linux, and Solaris
  • Minimum 1 year experience authoring software in C++ and Java or with automation tools such as LoadRunner, QuickTest Professional
  • Green Belt Certification (GE employees only)

  • Strong software development lifecycle experience, experience of working within agile approach
  • Knowledge of software development tools, test automation tools, Client / Server applications, ClearCase, ClearQuest, Quality Center, eNPP, eDR, NPI Processes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to apply principles of logical or scientific reasoning to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
