Job Description Solutions Architect

·         SA is the technical leader/owner and the technical champion for the project.

·         SA works closely with Project Manager, Business Analyst and Delivery Manager to ensure timely and successful implementation of each client project.

·         SA is responsible for overall design, customization and integration of solutions and the product.

·         SA works closely with BA to configure core functionalities of the product.

·         SA works closely with BA to analyze the feasibility of a requirement and suggests alternate approaches.

·         SA provides Development and Unit testing estimates to the Project Manager and justifies it to the Delivery Manager.

·         SA sometimes participates in Design sessions with the clients and answers technical queries related to the product and/or customization.

·         SA researches technologies and approaches that are critical to the architecture.

·         SA researches and analyzes issues and finds solutions.

·         SA writes High Level Design Specifications and validates the low level design written by the developers.

·         SA answers developer’s queries during the construction stage.

·         SA needs to understand end-to-end J2EE architecture and topologies used in the production environment.

·         SA needs to understand the packaging & deployment methodology used for our hosted customers. They are not expected to run the deployments and installs, but need to be aware of the process and suggest improvements to the deployment and packaging process to suit client needs.

·         SA may need to perform deployments and installs for on-premises customers. They may also need to participate in discussions with on-site customers around packaging and deployment.

·         SA needs to have a good understanding of frameworks used in our product. (Metathesis, ROME, Navigation Framework, Presentation Layer, Template Object Model, Adapter Framework etc.)

·         SA is responsible for educating the clients (not formal training) in SDK usage and answering their queries.

·         SA does participate in some amount of coding.

·         SA must have a development environment to remain in sync with the development team.

·         SA works with the PM and client to strategize number/nature of application environments (dev, pre-prod, ist etc) and participates in hardware and software sizing activity.

In order to successfully execute the above mentioned tasks, a Solution Architect needs to have a good understanding of:

-J2EE (JSP/Servlets/EJB)

-Websphere 6.0

-DB2

-AIX

-Struts with Tiles

-RAD/Eclipse development environment

-Rational Clearcase and Subversion

-SOAP, Axis

-CSS/HTML

Some of these tasks may involve reaching out to different specialized teams, but the SA is ultimately responsible for successful execution of all things technical.
