Sr. Accountant, Sallie Mae Bank-UTAH

About the Job

The Sr. Accountant is part of the Sallie Mae Bank Accounting team. This position will play a key role in proactively eliminating controllable financial risk and exposure to the business, and regularly testing the accuracy and effectiveness of financial reports and controls.

 

Responsibilities:
Ÿ Act as liaison with internal and external audit and support the annual financial statement and disclosure preparation process.

Ÿ Apply internal control concepts as they relate to planning, performing, managing and reporting on various finance and treasury related activities.
Ÿ
Evaluate control processes to identify and implement process improvements and ensure compliance with internal control requirements. This individual will also be responsible for testing internal controls and FDICIA controls throughout the year.
Ÿ
Provide accounting support on special projects related to key business and financial initiatives

Desired Experience:
Ÿ
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
Ÿ
Minimum of 3-5 years relevant work experience, including audit, accounting and/or financial reporting. Understanding of US GAAP, finance practices, bank regulations, and regulatory reporting guidelines.
Ÿ
A thorough understanding of closing processes, journal entries and accruals, settlement processes, and cash movements and balancing.
Ÿ
Ability to manage multiple priorities, drive projects, improve processes, and work well under time-pressured deadlines.
Ÿ
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
Ÿ
Strong computer skills with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.
Ÿ
Dedicated, reliable, self motivated individual with strong organizational capabilities.
Ÿ
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ÿ
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, to lead initiatives and maintain strong working relationships with business partners.
Ÿ Must be flexible and adaptable in a continuously changing environment and also willing to work necessary hours in order to meet deadlines and provide a quality product to customers.
