This position will be responsible for providing Enterprise Architecture leadership, with particular expertise in technical/infrastructure architecture, to support the company's strategy and business goals. This individual will be part of the IT Strategy and Governance team.
Specific Responsibilities
The position is expected to aid IT leadership in aligning IT strategy to meet functional and financial business needs. Additionally, the position will contribute to Ciena’s IT architecture foundation by creating and maintaining principles, best practices, guidelines, and standards as needed. This is a highly collaborative position where the person will need to identify and partner with key thought leaders across the organization to deliver a cohesive, actionable strategy for our Enterprise Architecture. The ideal candidate will have the ability to analyze industry/market trends and assess their impact on the organization and its business goals and objectives. This individual will also provide leadership to drive the development and maintenance of our Enterprise Architecture with particular expertise in technical/infrastructure architecture.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide support for the IT Leadership team in aligning IT strategy with the business strategy/goals. Provide analysis, design, technology selection, risk assessment, review, and governance services to projects as required. Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise. Analyze enterprise business trends and company strategy to derive technical architecture. Understand, advocate and augment the principles of business and IT with focus on enterprise architecture (EA) strategies. Analyze the current technology environment/infrastructure to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. Actively manage and communicate the enterprise architecture strategy via creation and maintenance of the architecture Blueprints and Roadmaps. Work in collaboration with the other IT groups to establish, communicate and enforce clear architectural standards, processes, frameworks, templates and patterns. Derive and maintain an enterprise architecture model reflecting current, transitional and future state views in alignment with current business and IT goals. Integrate the architectural design considerations and process into other IT/Business processes (SIP, SDLC, Change Management, Configuration Management, Asset Management, CMDB, Business Continuity, etc...). This may include also providing support for EPMO-based projects/initiatives. Consult on technical architecture implementation and/or modifications particularly for new and/or shared infrastructure solutions. Oversee and facilitate the evaluation and selection of hardware and software technology. Document necessary technical architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project post-mortem documentation and metric collection.

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree (MIS) preferred. 10+ years overall IT experience with 5+ years direct experience working as an Infrastructure/Technical Architect. Enterprise Architect experience preferred. 7 to 10 years of experience in technical architecture, networking and network design, application development, middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations. Exposure to cloud computing and Infrastructure as a Service is ideal but not required. Experience working with outsourced service providers. Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments. In-depth knowledge of application, information, infrastructure, middleware, and security architectures. Experience as a senior level architect working on significant enterprise change initiatives. Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations. Ability to estimate the financial impact of technical architecture alternatives. Ability to evaluate and recommend multiple technical solutions to problems. Demonstrated experience presenting architecture concepts. Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies. Demonstrated experience leading teams in a matrix environment as well as creating individual contributions/deliverables.
