Position Description:

 

Symetra currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Sr. Application Developer to join our Corporate and Finance IT team! The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to provide IT support for our Hyperion System 9 Essbase & Reporting System as well as several other corporate and financial systems, work with IT teams, business leaders, and subject matter experts to define and implement IT business solutions and process improvements, and design, develop, test and implement new and modified applications in support of business priorities.

This person will also support other corporate and financial systems including applications supporting HR, Legal, and Commercial Mortgage Loans. Additional responsibilities include:

• Working with enterprise-wide business and IT management to understand and prioritize data and information requirements.
• Analyzing workflow and systems to make recommendations for implementing improvements.
• Providing leadership in working with business subject matter experts, developers, and quality assurance staff to ensure deliverables are met.
• Leveraging technical skills to develop, test, and implement solutions while following defined development best practices.
• Actively participating as a team member as well as mentoring other members of the IT team as a senior developer.
• Participation in design walkthroughs and code reviews. May be required to support component and data architecture design, performance monitoring, product evaluation and buy versus build recommendations.
• Support the budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and reporting for the corporate finance team.

This person will primarily support the planning, reporting, and maintenance of our Hyperion System 9 Essbase & Reporting System. Applicants must have both a strong background in Hyperion Essbase (preferably administrator) as well as a strong background in finance planning and analysis.

This position requires excellent analytical, problem solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills, coupled with a passion for delivering high quality enterprise software systems. Additional requirements include:

• 5 years of programming and systems analysis experience.
• Proven design, development and implementation experience.
• Demonstrated experience in following formal software development methodologies and best practices within a regulated financial services environment.
• Ability to interface professionally and pro-actively with business partners on a daily basis in support of their requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences including other developers, as well as business partners and management.
• Must be self-motivated, possess the ability to take on projects and tasks with little direction, and apply good judgment on decision-making skills.
• History of meeting deadlines particularly in uncertain environments and delivering high quality results.
• Proven ability to appropriately identify, take ownership, and focus on highest priority tasks.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field or equivalent work experience.

Technical skill requirements include:

• Hyperion System 9 application and tools
• ETL tools (HAL, Data Intergration Manager, SSIS)
• MS SQL Server 2005
• Microsoft technology stack, including ASP.NET, VB.NET, ADO.NET, C# and Web Services
• Exposure to Agile development methodologies
• Third Party application integration & configuration
• Experience developing WSS/MOSS solutions such as event handlers, web parts and workflows
• Working knowledge of the SharePoint object model and SharePoint services platform
• Experience integrating InfoPath forms with SharePoint a plus (Forms Services)
• Lawson General Ledger and Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains application experience a plus
