Position Description: This is a senior level position working in a fast paced environment. This resource will be responsible for implementing new servers, managing and expanding existing systems and refining overall architecture in our customers’ environments. Job duties include OS upgrades and patching, writing shell scripts, monitoring and troubleshooting system performance, as well as other complex changes to the production and development environment. Other duties include responding to telephone calls, email and personnel requests for technical support, as well as training/mentoring junior personnel.

Skills Necessary:

· Ability to administer large enterprise class Linux servers in an environment where uptime and availability are critical

· Fundamental understanding of UNIX operating systems including concepts such as job control, symbolic links, journaled file systems, and distinction(s) between kernels and shells

· Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v3-5, and Oracle Enterprise Linux

· Experience with virtualization (Zones, Containers, LDOMs, LPARs)

· Conversant with SAN technologies

· Ability to propose, plan, document, and execute addition of new servers, provision for additional storage, manage performance, track and plan for capacity requirements, and upgrade software/microcode/firmware

· Ability to solve problems quickly, completely and efficiently

· Ability to deliver projects on-time and on-budget

· Ability to identify tasks requiring automation and the ability to automate in a portable/platform independent manner

· Possess logical, analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills

· Work with vendors to solve complex issues related to system performance and/or enhancements

· Comfortable with all aspects of administration including email system configurations, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, and installation of third-party software

· Knowledge of and ability to configure fundamental networking components including NFS, NIS, and DNS

· Knowledge of local and wide area networking protocols and their appropriate configuration

· Ability to debug and troubleshoot operating system and application access problems

· Experience with system diagnostic tools and/or programs including the ability to analyze their output

· Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capability to write proposals and/or white papers, act as a vendor liaison, make presentations to customer or client audiences or professional peers, and work closely with upper management

· Ability to work as part of a team and be a team player

· Available to provide 24X7 system support

Education:

· IT/MIS related bachelors degree

· Red Hat Certification

Years of Related Experience:

· Minimum 5 years experience in Linux administration/support in similar enterprise environment(s)
