Sr. Manager Engineering, QA Tools and Automation
Our DIRECTV Quality Assurance Engineering and Testing team (QAETS) is responsible for the overall quality of DIRECTV's enterprise applications. Time to market and quality are of paramount importance for DIRECTV to compete in the pay television marketplace. QAETS is looking for a highly motivated Senior Manager to lead engineering automation efforts and weave automation into day-to-day development, in support of our business.
Our DIRECTV Quality Assurance Engineering and Testing team (QAETS) is responsible for the overall quality of DIRECTV's enterprise applications. Time to market and quality are of paramount importance for DIRECTV to compete in the pay television marketplace. QAETS is looking for a highly motivated Senior Manager to lead engineering automation efforts and weave automation into day-to-day development, in support of our business.
Responsibilities:
- Drive initiatives with internal resources, tools, vendors and third-party consultants to build a comprehensive strategy for improving application development and quality through automation and tools development
- Reduce cycle times by automating testing, tools development, system linkage, environment & data setups, and other quality engineering activities
- Daily hands-on program/project management addressing bottlenecks and influencing throughput improvements through project planning and through the life cycle of a project by working with QA groups as well as Development and Operations
- Provide leadership and a vision in improving software development and quality processes while driving projects and implementing solutions
- Manage budgets and resources, including the provision of clear justifications and analysis of benefits to executive management
- Provide strategic leadership and direction as a backup for the Sr. Director and his leadership team when needed
for Success:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or MIS/IT related topics
- 10+ years of overall enterprise experience in large scale software systems development, 3+ years of direct or matrix management, with at least 2 years of OO development
- Demonstrated expertise with off the shelf software testing tools (Quick Test Pro, Selenium, SOA Test, HP Service Test, Load Runner, Quality Center) and custom built harnesses (JUnit, C++, Perl)
- Domain expertise with typical software development lifecycles, and experience in complex software delivery utilizing agile development methodologies
- Prior experience in an OO architecture role including work with Java, C++, Web Services, and Unix/Linux development tools
- Direct experience developing automation and implementing tools to drive testing improvements; including test harness development for unit test automation
- Demonstrated ability to drive initiatives with senior engineering management across multiple disciplines and locations
- A resourceful, innovative, independent thinker willing to challenge conventional wisdom
Ideal Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/IT and/or MBA
- Professional Certifications in Quality Assurance and Project Management (PMP)
- Experience in the design and implementation of an End-to-End test strategy/plan
