
Making Life Even Better. Life Technologies has an immediate opportunity available for a Sr. Manager of Human Resources at the Carlsbad, CA headquarters. To provide HR leadership for the Molecular Biology Systems Division (MBS) Carlsbad, CA-based business unit and R&D and Business Development groups including the development, implementation, and operational management of human resource services for multiple customer groups of large size and scope in recruitment and employment, compensation, benefits administration, employee and/or labor relations, organization development, training, AAP/EEO and special projects. Coordinates activities with HR specialists in Benefits, Compensation, Recruiting and HRIS. Assists in leading strategy development for Life Technologies global HR. Essential Functions: Serves as the primary business partner to MBS Division client groups in Carlsbad, CA. Provide, through own efforts and staff, comprehensive recruiting and affirmative action plan support to various hiring managers in the assigned customer group. Identify and implement new recruitment strategies. Conduct senior level interviews and provide reporting to leadership on recruitment efforts. Implement and administer all salary, incentive and equity programs for assigned client groups as applicable. Coordinate recommendations and activities with the HR Compensation group to ensure organizational consistency and provide feedback on employees satisfaction and market issues. Ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met. Implement and administer all benefit programs for assigned customer group as applicable. Provide feedback to HR Benefits group on employee satisfaction and market issues. In conjunction with HR Benefits and Compensation groups, coordinate communications and completion of open enrollments, annual performance reviews and other compensation and benefits related activities for assigned customer group. Ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met. Stay abreast of the employee relations climate and implement solutions to issues as they arise. Through self or staff, counsel employees and managers on career planning, conflict resolution and work related problems. Conduct senior level exit interviews. Represent Life Technologies in more sensitive or complicated external matters. Advise managers on performance management issues such as appropriate corrective counseling, training and development, and progressive discipline techniques and processes. Review documentation to ensure consistency with Life Technologies policies and procedures. Involve the Legal department at the appropriate time. Coordinate the performance appraisal process for the assigned customer group. Administer all HR and Safety policies and programs applicable to the assigned customer group. Recommend and implement revisions to policies, programs and practices as needed. Ensure compliance with all state and federal statues and regulations including but not limited to all applicable wage and hour laws, and regulations related to CPDL, FMLA, OSHA EEO and ADA. Contribute actively to the development and implementation of overall global HR strategy. In conjunction with the HR OD group, develop and deliver OD and training assessments and programs to assigned customer groups. May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Nature and Scope: This position interacts with all levels of personnel internally and in the community requiring the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing Life Technologies’ mission and business objectives as well as HR policies/programs and the interpretation of them. Effectiveness in this role requires a full knowledge of corporate operations and product line as well as a full understanding of HR industry practices. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with excellent judgment and discretion is critical. The incumbent determines own practices and procedures and leads and/or contributes to the development of new concepts. Decisions may be made outside of policy constraints with the appropriate approval. Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience is required. Professional certification in Human Resources and/or graduate coursework preferred. Experience: Requires a minimum 7-10 years relevant professional level human resources generalist experience, including supervision and experience defining and driving HR strategies. Previous experience managing multiple sites strongly preferred. Experience in a growth stage company, and background that is wide-ranging having required comprehensive analysis of complex situations, creative problem solving and strong influence skills is required. Full understanding of applicable state and federal regulations, as well as demonstrated organizational and communication skills are required. User level working knowledge of HR information systems required. This position is located in Carlsbad, CA. Relocation benefits are available.
