SUMMARY OF POSITION: The primary responsibility of this position includes management of primary market research studies and analysis of secondary market research information to support product development, product launches, product and marketing strategies for existing products, marketing and business development requests, market trending analysis for strategy and portfolio management and other senior management requests in Covidien’s Pharmaceuticals Division. The individual in this position handles projects and information requiring a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Performs secondary marketing research utilizing multiple databases to analyze relevant markets as defined by Covidien Pharmaceuticals. • Performs analyses in the areas of product revenue, average selling prices, units, prescriptions, payer types, patient demographics, patient diagnoses, physician prescribing behavior, procedural volumes, market size, market share, penetration, marketing practices and trends, and prepares market trend forecasts. • Gathers data on competitors and analyzes their prices, sales, and methods of operation. • Monitors the marketplace for trend or competitor activity relevant to Covidien Pharmaceuticals and reports findings on a periodic basis. • Assists in reviewing proposals and coordinating project timeline, scope and budget with external market research vendors. • Assists in the development of qualitative interview or focus group discussion guides and quantitative surveys for primary market research projects. • Analyzes primary market research data and prepares summary reports for presentations to senior management. • May assist in managing market research interns.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:
• The senior market research analyst position reports to a Market Research Director.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA or Masters degree in Marketing Research or a related field is strongly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3-4 years of marketing research experience is required. Experience in the medical industry preferred. Knowledge of diagnostic imaging and/or pharmaceuticals is a plus.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Demonstrated evidence of strong analytical skills are required. Qualitative (e.g. interviewing, focus groups) and quantitative (e.g. statistical analysis, survey design) marketing research experience desired. Experience writing market research reports and delivering presentations preferred.
Skills/Competencies: Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software is required (Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project). Experience using IMS Health, Wolter’s Kluwer and SDI pharmaceutical database tools is preferred.
Other Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to work cross-functionally within the organization required (marketing, R&D, finance, sales, etc.)
