Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the strategic planning and the creation and management of various initiatives and programs that are either requested by senior management or recommended by the Sr. Manager. These programs will be of high impact, influence and visibility to the organization and will affect the revenue and margin of a Department or the total business. Activities are accomplished within agreed upon budget while meeting or exceeding the business and financial goals of the company. Manages one or more project managers depending on the specific projects being managed. Will have the responsibility of developing and managing budgets (sometimes large), managing complex cross-functional projects, and managing external consultants/vendors.
• Prepare analysis of current business portfolio. Identify product/services lifecycles and plans for portfolio components. Identify profitable growth opportunities for the company.
• Develop ideas for new business initiatives and existing projects that will increase the profitability of the company.
• Ensure the creation of appropriate models and tools that will help PetSmart determine if business growth is best created organically or though external transactions.
• Work with senior management to identify growth strategies and potential acquisitions that will enhance the Business portfolio.
• Develop strong business partnerships with PetSmart senior management and other business influencers. Manage teams that will work seamlessly with all personnel to identify and investigate new business opportunities as well as implement plans to test, pilot, and roll-out initiatives.
• Create short and long term strategies and plans for the development and roll out of new initiatives. Ensure that these initiatives can be converted into plans and programs that can be readily adopted/adapted by the business units.
• Execute business initiatives that will maximize business and financial growth strategies. Develop and execute plans that will introduce these initiatives as a viable component of the PetSmart portfolio.
• Work with business units to assess issues, develop recommendations and implement business improvement processes. Create an improvement process methodology that identifies, captures, and applies improvements to the business process development and maintenance methodologies based on lessons learned, industry best practices, and feedback from customers.
• Develop tools to benchmark and identify best practices of companies in any industry that have a strong business profile. Incorporate results into a comprehensive model for researching new opportunities.
• Run queries in the data warehouse to get information. Analyze data and information, develop insights, and make recommendations to the Vice President.
• Create presentations that articulate business problems and present coherent solutions for senior staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a focus on Business. MBA is preferred. Retail experience preferred. 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in project management and/or business development and strategic planning desired. Proficiency in MicroSoft suite of products required. Leadership and management skills required. Record of successful corporate business engagements and management including the application of financial analysis supporting strategic planning and implementation required. Knowledge of business development principles and approaches that have proven successful required. Translate concepts into coherent communications and presentations. Experience in applying various valuation methods and financial forecasting tools in the context of corporate investment initiatives and M&A engagements required. Ability to work effectively in a teaming environment required. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, presentation and report writing/structuring skills required.
