General Purpose

STAR Dynamics Corporation is in search of a qualified individual to be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals. The position reports to the VP of Programs.

 

Core Competencies

The selected candidate is expected to:

                 

Plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget.

Work with functional managers to identify and assign required resources.

Coordinate the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

Consistent with customer expectations and project scope, define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project’s life cycle.

Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of the assigned project(s).

Effectively apply STAR Dynamics Corporation’s PM methodology.

Minimize company exposure and risk on assigned projects.

Manage day-to-day client interaction.

Set and manage client expectations.

Develop lasting relationships with client personnel that foster client ties.

Be a change agent by leading the identification, discussion, approval and implementation of new and innovative PM processes and, the improvement of existing PM processes and methods.

Mentor less experienced Project Managers.

Effectively communicate internally and with customers at all levels.

Accurately forecasts revenue, profitability, margins, and resource utilization

Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.

Identify business development and "add-on" sales opportunities as they relate to a specific project.

Supports proposal efforts as required.

Define project scope, goals, deliverables and budgets that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.

Develop full-scale project plans and associated documents.

Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.

Where required, negotiate with functional managers and other Program Managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.

Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.

Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.

Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.

Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.

Track project milestones and deliverables.

Develop and deliver progress reports and presentations.

Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and devise contingency plans.

Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.

Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.

 

Requirements

                 

Bachelors degree in Engineering (Masters preferred) with the ability to understand general design and implementation issues in the areas of mechanical, electrical, RF, digital and software engineering.

 

Minimum 10 years direct work experience in a project management capacity with significantly complex projects (multidisciplinary, multiyear NPD projects), in a matrix organization. Same level of experience managing large cross functional teams.

 

Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Project.

Competent and proficient understanding of military requirements.

Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.

Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

Flexible during times of change.

Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating.

Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management and clients.

Strong negotiation and presentation skills.

Product and service management experience preferred.

Work Conditions

                 

Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
