Summary
This is a senior level engineering position requiring technical, communication, and interpersonal skills as required for developing new products and modifying existing products. Many assignments for this level position involve the development of complete projects, occasionally multi-faceted. Multi-disciplined program technical leadership is required. The person for this position must be able to conceive, develop, and design products, systems, and processes (or portions thereof) as applicable for Weighing Technology products or systems; apply basic mathematical and scientific knowledge to a wide range of technical challenges; apply technical skills in one or more areas of recognized superior technical knowledge; and provide technical leadership as requested. The successful candidate will execute the following described duties. By doing such, the Sr. Project Engineer contributes to maximizing cash flow/generation and profitability, thus adding to shareholder value.
Activities are completed with minimal or no guidance. Performs advanced engineering projects and/or assignments. Exercises judgment within defined methods, procedures, and practices. Expected to expand functional knowledge into diverse disciplines. Expected to make autonomous decisions within realms of expertise. Expected to make strategic recommendations and plans.
May take on further responsibilities as training and experience grow. Position functions as primary customer applications support contact, as well as design and development support contact. Functions as a primary research and development engineer in conjunction with the R&D Manager.
Candidate must possess strong inventive aptitude with a proven track record of contribution to timely, successful product launches.
Strong structural finite element analysis (FEA) skills with a proven history of design development using this technology are essential for this job.

Education and Experience
BS/MS in an Engineering discipline from an accredited 4-year university; MS/PhD w/PE license preferred; BS in other disciplines may qualify if related experiences and capabilities are demonstrated; 7-10 years of experience in related disciplines with demonstrated skills; Proficiency with Pro/ENGINEER strongly preferred, but proficiency in similar software (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, etc.) considered; Expertise in structural FEA (with exposure to non-linear materials a plus).
Mathematical Skills
Comprehend and apply algebraic, advanced calculus, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

Language Skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and generally is that of a typical office, characterized by both walled and open area arranged workstations. The required environment is business oriented and quiet. Casual, appropriate business dress is required. However, the employee may be required, in the course of performing their duties to be in the proximity of moving mechanical parts, electrical apparatus, and vehicular traffic. Occasional visits to various supplier/customer sites would expose the individual to other environments too numerous to list, but could include manufacturing, industrial, and similar operations which would expose them to dust, dirt, hot and cold environments, fumes and loud, continuous noise. The safe and professional/courteous use of phone(s), systems and personal computer is required. During those periods, there is a risk of electrical shock, physical injury, and vibration. During training and travel situations, the employee may need to remain standing for 4-6 hours.
Travel
This position may require the person to travel, 5 to 10% of the person’s time may be spent away from the office traveling to visit customers, channel partners, exhibitions, or other METTLER TOLEDO operations. Most of the travel will be overnight and by commercial airline carrier or by automobile. Much of the travel is in North America; however, other international travel to Europe, Asia/Pacific, Central and South America may be required. The person must be capable of obtaining a current U.S. passport or other equivalent acceptable documentation to facilitate this requirement, and pass a motor vehicle record check.

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for and compiles information as needed to evaluate internal MTMS and MT procedures and systems in compliance with current practices and procedures such as ISO and similar programs.
