Denver Public Schools is seeking a Senior Project Manager for its Bond Program, Construction Services.  This is a temporary position that will be required only during the period of the bond program.

OBJECTIVE:


This position will directly support the District’s 2009 Capital Bond program.  Manages facility design and construction projects for the District.  Plan, organize, coordinate, evaluate, and direct activities of Project Managers who are responsible for managing architects, engineers, contractors and other contracted suppliers to ensure that the District’s buildings are safe, aesthetically pleasing, economically maintainable, energy efficient, and functionally sound to meet all programmatic requirements. This individual would require a strong project management background in Mechanical, Electrical and Fire Life Safety Systems.


 


Essential Functions:


•Carry out directions of the Director of Bond Construction related to new school buildings, remodeling and repair of facilities, and facility planning.


•Manage a group of Project Managers on a daily basis to ensure that daily responsibilities are being met as it relates to the preparation of drawings and specifications for new buildings, additions, remodeling, and major repairs in cooperation with administrators and school staff, the community, and professional architects and engineers.


•Manage the group through the selection of architects, construction consultants, and construction contractors to ensure meeting the organizations goals from a bidding and award prospective.


•Manages challenges of working with building code requirements and code compliance of contract documents.


•Communicate with State and City Building Department officials to understand schedule challenges with permit and C of O approvals.


•Ensure project teams are reviewing design progress documents and construction contract documents at appropriate time intervals.


•Manage overall project costs and schedule for the group to ensure no issues with projects are occurring.


•Ensure that user group participation is occurring with all design review meetings and that user requirements are being communicated to the architect..


•From time to time, participate in project construction meetings to ensure project managers are addressing any and all concerns in a timely manner.


•Review bids and recommend for approval architect, construction consultant, and construction contractor pay requests.


•Manage all internal communications in regards to project work and schedule with end users such as, but not limited to operations and maintenance, principals, QA/QC teams public relations/community relations


•Perform and put forth any internal paper work, systems input in order to get projects approved by internal management teams


•Perform any internal systems update to track project scopes, costs and schedule throughout the duration of the project.


•Ensure complete closeout of each project, including the receipt of as-built drawings from the contractor to the architect/engineer to ensure DPS receives complete and accurate documentation from the architects/engineers on each project.  This shall also include the management and turn over of all warranties to internal DPS staff.


•Perform other related duties, including special projects, as assigned.


 


Education/Experience:


•Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or construction management required.  Master’s degree preferred.


•Additional training in construction administration desired. 


•Minimum of 10 years of successful architectural or engineering experience and/or construction program and project management, involving both administrative and technical responsibilities.


Experience in Commercial Mechanical, Electrical and Fire Life Safety Systems a must. 


•Minimum five years supervisory experience.


•High level of proficiency in computer, including MS Office Suite.


•Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.


 


Licensure/Certification:


Valid Colorado Driver's license and ability to meet District's insurability requirements.


Negotiable to meet the needs of the specific application.
