Job Description

OBJECTIVES:

The Lead Discovery group within ImmunoOncology Research at Takeda Boston is seeking a Cell Biologist/Immunologist with extensive cell based assay development experience to progress small/large molecule programs into the clinic. The successful candidate will also independently design and implement experiments to address mechanisms-of-action of therapeutic molecules. The research scientist will also be responsible for participating on matrix project teams, interfacing very closely with members of the Protein Sciences/Immuno Biologics/ Chemistry/IO Biology teams.  

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Provide broad assay development support for early stage drug discovery projects using FACS, high content imaging, and primary co-culture assays in the field of Oncology/IO
  • Evaluate and implement the best genomic  technologies in collaboration with project teams to fit the purpose at hand
  • Design, execute and validate a variety of assays to understand mechanism of action of compounds and characterize different biologics and small molecules
  • Contribute and implement new ideas and in vitro proof of concept studies to enable initiation and progression of early discovery projects
  • Interface with project teams to meet timelines for project progression
  • Present research findings clearly and effectively at internal and external meetings
  • Support drug discovery programs by providing relevant scientific and strategic input to drive project decisions
  • Collaborate with engineers to identify suitable approaches for assay automation and execute high throughput small molecule/large molecule screens
  • Troubleshoot complex problems in creative and effective ways and actively participates in innovation and/or optimization of established processes to ensure delivery on project goals 

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:   

  • BS/MS in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Immunology with 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent, in early stage pharmaceutical drug discovery
  • Team player able to liaise across multiple disciplines including Cell Biology, Immunology Chemistry, Inventory Management and Automation
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Skilled in analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results
  • Experience with  mammalian cell culture with best practices in tissue culture is required
  • Hands on experience with automated genomic platforms is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work in cross-functional project teams
  • Innovative and critical thinking
  • Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast paced environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e., computers, phones, etc.).   
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Working in a lab environment: standing, walking, bending, etc.

  

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips.  Some international travel may be required.
  • Requires approximately 0-5% travel
