SQL Server Database Administrator – Chicago, 2009

Cision is currently seeking a Database Administrator with a minimum of 5 years experience to become a valuable addition to our database administration team. The DBA will be responsible for the day to day administration of current SQL Server environment. In addition he or she will be involved with designing and implementing a new scalable, highly-available global data architecture.
Main Tasks/Responsibilities:
? Managing and administering SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 databases, ensuring availability and performance of all SQL Server databases.
? Leading the database space and allocation planning and assisting in ensuring that the necessary associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases.
? Performance tuning and resource monitoring of various databases, including analyzing and reporting on metrics and trends.
? Implementation of database and data architecture monitoring technologies and procedures and proactively monitor the database systems and resources to ensure secure, stable, high-performing services with minimum downtime.
? Performing performance tuning of the database systems, jobs, indexes, queries and configurations.
? Participate in the formulation and monitoring of policies, procedures and standards relating to database management, and working with the teams in the design and implementation of database security policies and integrity controls.
? Serve as an active member of Data Architecture Committee, with primary responsibility for MS SQL Server database environment, including evaluation and assessment of technologies, versions, concepts and strategies.
? Participating in the design and implementation of a scalable, highly available, global data architecture, including the employment of technologies/concepts such as Service Broker, SQL replication, SQL clustering, data integration, ETL, Master Data Management, and Data Warehouses.
? The implementation of database backup and recovery technologies and procedures, as well as monitoring, testing and issue resolution.
? Working with the development teams on projects and systems in database modeling and design, creating/tuning/optimizing indexes, stored procedures, DTS/SSIS packages and SQL jobs, as well as assisting in troubleshooting, performance tuning and general problem solving of SQL development.
? Installation and configuration of SQL Server 2005/2008 databases on Windows 2003 Enterprise servers (32bit/64bit) in high availability environment, including reviewing, testing and implementing the database portion of third party software.
? Performing all changes and maintenance of the databases, including rollouts and upgrades, as well as testing and approving SQL Server patching.
? Participating in on-call support and managing SQL Server monitors and alerts.
Requirements:
? 5+ years experience supporting MS SQL Server as Database Administrator
? 3+ years experience with database modeling, stored procedures, jobs, complex queries and modifications
? 3+ years experience programming in T-SQL.
? 3+ years experience troubleshooting database, system, and/or networking issues.
? Candidate must possess self-motivation and strong communication and problem solving skills.
? Experience of managing multiple MS SQL 2005 & 2008 RDBMSs (Standard and Enterprise Editions).
? Knowledge of backups and recovery, security administration, database and server performance monitoring, tuning and trending, and capacity planning.
? Experience with partitioning, file group optimization, database mirroring, log shipping, and clustering and expertise in SQL Server database replication.
? Hands-on experience with developing, optimizing and maintaining DTS and SSIS packages.
? Relational data modeling and conceptual, logical and physical database design and implementation experience.
? Experience designing and implementing data warehouses and data marts.
? Experience working with distributed, scalable, highly-available architectures.
? Experience with database modeling tools desirable.
? Experience with data integration and ETL technologies desirable.
? Experience with master data management tools and technologies a plus.
? Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation a plus.
? Experience upgrading SQL Server 2005 to version 2008 a plus.
? Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
? SQL Server Certification preferred
