Sr Staff Interior Designer-Hospitality

Job Description:

Kohler Company is seeking a high energy, creative Sr Interior Designer -Hospitality to work in our corporate headquarters in Kohler Wisconsin, to assist with luxury hospitality, major construction and remodeling projects. Work on high profile projects such as Whistling Straits, home of the 2004 PGA, The American Club, the only Five Diamond hotel in the Midwest, and the state-of-the-art Kohler Water Spa.

In this role, the Sr Interior Designer will establish the tone for interior design quality to reflect Kohler standard of elegance and flair. In addition to being responsible for mentoring other interior design staff to elevate level of creativity, the Sr Interior Designer - hospitality will also be leading interior design creativity throughout all high end projects such as Five Diamond hotels, world renowned golf facilities, upscale restaurants and water spa as these projects are reviewed and approved by the Chairman. Work on luxury hospitality projects involving building construction, facility renovation, and restoration of structures both domestic and international. Responsibilities include: Setting the standard for interior design excellence and major project interior design. Contribute expertise for projects in the field of interior design in cooperation with other members of Architecture and Interior Design Group, or outside consultants, as necessary.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES

I. Project Design
A. Develop creative and innovative design concepts, analyze and resolve technical problems, ADA/code compliance, conduct feasibility studies, and cost estimates.

B. Address ergonomic and ADA code compliance.

C. Review and approve all interior design projects and furnishings before submitting to
the Chairman for approval.


II. Project Development
A. Develop preliminary design concepts through block diagrams, schematic layouts, and specifications.

B. Complete space planning options, details, and installation drawings on large scale projects.

C. Select and present interior finishes/furnishings recommendations.

D. Provide project budgets by estimating and preparing quotation specifications and review for compliance.


IV. Project Management
A. Approve purchase requisitions and/or contracts after they have been reviewed by appropriate departments for final content.

B. Develop a detail project schedule.

C. Monitor project progress to guarantee compliance and adherence with contract documents and insure quality.

V. Project Review
A. Develop and maintain a punch-list of items remaining, issue summary reports to management including project insights that will be beneficial to future projects.

B. Conduct a post audit of capital expenditures on each project, when required.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a B.S. or B.A. Degree in Interior Design with ten years related work experience in luxury hospitality, or a Masters Degree with five years related work experience. Successful completion of the National Council of Interior Design Qualifications examination is required. Professional status in one of the following organizations is required; ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), IIDA (International Interior Design Assoc.), or IFMA (International Facility Design Association).
