Y3K Consulting LLC has a Senior System Engineering/Capacity Planning position available in Falls Church, VA. The main purpose of this position is to design, develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive capacity planning approach and methodology. The Capacity Planning Engineer will assist and work with both development and systems engineering departments, to identify and evaluate current key metrics across all IT layers and to model current and projected business demands on IT services.

Responsibilities:

§          Serves as the focal point in identification, logging, and analysis of data, that supports current capacity measurement and analysis.

§          Serves as the focal point in analysis of current capacity metrics to support 'what if' scenarios, and to project future capacity requirements to IT and business management.

§          Works with Enterprise Monitoring and all IT Teams, to capture relevant data across applications and infrastructure.

§          Develops scenarios, tests and load tests to properly identify systems under test to accurately predict current and future workloads.

§          Evaluates, proposes, and administers relevant Capacity Planning tools.

§          Evaluates new and existing services to insure capacity requirements are defined, implemented, and planned for.

Experience:

§          5+ years of systems engineering experience (Understanding of various components – OS, DB’s, Network infrastructure, Disk sub-systems etc)

§          2+ years related work experience in capacity planning and analysis, using a variety of tools and techniques.

§          1+ years related work experience administering and supporting an enterprise monitoring solution. Experience with TeamQuest or similar monitoring and modeling tools preferred.

§          Strong communication and leadership skills.

§          Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to solve complex systems issues and problems.

§          Experience in performance and resource optimization processes.

§          Experience in developing scripts to perform custom logging and analysis, where appropriate.

§          Experience utilizing and maintaining a centralized management system.

§          Experience in healthcare information systems a plus.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Must be able to obtain a minimum of ADP II (Public Trust) clearance.
