The PIIRS Storage organization provides design, support, and configuration services on the mass storage infrastructure for the Thomson Reuters Professional division.
The Senior Systems Engineer - Storage Analyst is responsible for coordinating the project delivery activities of the Storage organization, maintaining storage infrastructure asset and capacity data, and ensuring consistent alignment with the annual budget. The position is also responsible for obtaining purchase quotes from vendors, recording and tracking purchases, and reporting purchase data to leadership to assist with cost trend analysis and assessment.
Responsibilities
Project Delivery Coordination (40%)
- Act as point of contact for Implementation and Project Management teams to take in Storage workstreams for projects.
- Work with Storage leadership to ensure resource availability for project deliverables
- Maintain data on completed, active, and future projects, and provide reports regularly to leadership.
- For internal Storage projects, coordinate with other PIIRS teams (DBA, Windows, Unix, Network, etc.,) to ensure required components are provided.
- Review processes on a regular basis to identify trends and potential opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Storage leadership to maintain on-time delivery of Storage project elements.
Asset Inventory and Budget Alignment 40%
- Maintain and update Storage infrastructure inventory, including status of remaining maintenance and support.
- Work with Storage vendors to ensure Storage inventory is fully supported and funded.
- Track and maintain historical records of storage infrastructure purchases.
- Ensure timely processing of capital and expense purchase requests.
- Create and maintain 12-month capacity projections, including available, planned purchases, and business unit demand.
- Collaborate with IT Finance and Storage leadership to ensure consistent alignment to Storage budget.
Change Coordination and Management (20%)
- Assemble and track information on storage infrastructure changes.
- Represent and communicate storage infrastructure changes during weekly review meetings.
- Review and report on completed changes to identify trends
- Collaborate with Change Management to determine optimal storage change processes, change windows, and improvements.
Education and Experience
- B.S./B.A. Computer Science or related field, or equivalent level of experience
- 5-7 years progressive technology experience in mid-sized to large enterprise infrastructures
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to assemble and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Knowledge of typical infrastructure maintenance agreements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including interacting across the organization, partnering with business and technology areas to deliver to customers, both internal and external.
- Proven experience and familiarity with Change Management discipline and process.
- Proven orientation to organizational and data-oriented decision making.
- Adaptable presentation and communication skills
- Knowledge of mass storage concepts and chargeback models.
