Sr. UNIX Infrastructure/Performance Engineer
- Serve as technical subject matter expert and collaborate with other SME’s to develop and implement a wide range of strategic and tactical Unix infrastructure solutions, including virtualization, server management automation and performance engineering
- Propose, design, document and implement solutions for system infrastructure and interface components as well as non-functional system solutions and processes using the “best-of-breed” approach
- Gather and analyze requirements, translate them into respective technical specifications and use cases and further map to possible implementation options
- Create and analyze alternatives and advocate them to the project teams and management
- Perform environment capacity planning, system optimization and tuning to meet specified performance expectations
- Assist Project Managers, Technical Leads and Architects with project scope, estimation, timelines, dependencies and distribution of tasks
- Interact with Information Security and Audit teams to ensure that proposed system solutions adhere to enterprise policies and standards
- Develop implementation, operational and troubleshooting documentation to be used by operational teams
- Facilitate operational knowledge transfer
- Provide 2nd level support of the implemented solutions
Required Skills:
- At least 5+ years experience of system engineering in mission critical environments
- Proven experience of creating effective system solutions, including research and proof-of-concept, and advocating proposed solutions to the project teams and management
- Prior experience working in fast-pace, high-demand environment as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills required for socializing technical concepts and building consensus
- In-depth knowledge of RHEL and Solaris OSes including use of embedded virtualization technologies, clustering technologies, multi-home networking, routing, performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Prior experience engineering Unix server provisioning, patching and centralized management solutions is a must
- Prior experience in load and performance testing/tuning and ability to identify and address performance bottlenecks across the entire system stack is a must
- Demonstrated understanding of system security best practices
- Solid experience in Unix shell/Perl scripting
- Prior experience designing and implementing peripheral infrastructure solutions in support of large payloads (high-throughput backup/recovery, snapshot-based backups, addressing WAN latency effects, etc.) is a plus
- Hands-on experience with RedHat Enterprise Virtualization is a plus
