Southern Management is currently seeking a Staff Accountant for our regional office located in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  The Staff Accountant will work directly with the Controller on various projects and tasks and will directly interface with the other accounting staff members in the course of their duties.  This person will also work directly with 20 plus branch and 3 regional offices conducting monthly financial evaluations and assisting them with their requests and financial reporting questions.

 

Essential Duties:

·         Be able to review financial data and compile reports to assist the operating units improve their overall performance and knowledge.

·         Develop systems and approaches to assist the organization in maintaining our prescribed level of SOX compliance.

·         Be able to perform balance sheet reconciliations.

·         Participate in the monthly accounting close cycle and ensure that all deadlines are met.

·         Prepare and/ or post journal entries.

·         Coordinate with the field regarding check disbursement processes affecting bank reconciliations, including instructions for voids, reversals, reissues and other process improvements.

·         Review proposed resolution of reconciling items /adjusting journal entries resulting from account reconciliations.

·         Monitor month end accruals.

·         Provide monthly analysis of departmental results and variance from budget/forecast report.

·         Assist in the preparation and compilation of the Regional Budget.

·         Assist in the preparation and compilation of quarterly Regional forecasts.

·         Monitors compliance with internal controls over financial reporting.

·         Maintains changes to the general ledger and coordinates user’s rights to the accounting and other systems.

·         Special projects and other duties as assigned.

·         Help build and secure the Southern Management / ABM brand and image. Always represent the company in a professional, positive manner, and consistently maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality.


 

 


Additional Responsibilities may include the following tasks:

·         Support the company’s values.

·         Coordinate the controlled payout calendar and review all controlled payout logs and file accordingly.

·         Support regional managers as needed.

 

Qualifications:

·         Able to work well under pressure to meet established goals.

·         Proven ability to lead and manage within a large and diverse work force.

·         Ability to collaborate with other individuals, departments and teams.

·         Strong ability to write compelling, detailed reports.

·         Strong analytical skills.

·         Must be well organized and able to handle multiple projects and time sensitive tasks simultaneously.

·         Computer literacy including competence in, Microsoft applications, web-based applications and JDE systems and/or other robust accounting systems.

·         Strong skills in the following areas:

o   Communication, both written and verbal

o   Time management

o   Organization

·         Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

 

Travel:

·         This position entails travel 10% of the time.

·          This position may entail occasional weekend work.

 

Education/Licenses Required:

·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of experience.
