A new insurance company in Madison, Wisconsin is recruiting for a Staff Accountant within the Finance department reporting to the Controller. - Experience with Statutory and GAAP Insurance Accounting
- Familiar with Oracle Financials or PeopleSoft or SAP
Job Purpose:
The Staff Accountant position is responsible for, but not limited to, preparing the monthly bank account reconciliations, maintaining fixed asset schedules, preparing purchase orders and preparing various general ledger entries and account reconciliations. This position also provides support to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer for special projects and month-end closings.
Duties:
· Prepare journal entries to record insurance and payroll activities
· Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations. Research and facilitate resolution of any issues.
· Investigate outstanding checks for abandoned checks or voids and resolve any issues.
· Code and input accounts payable invoices into Oracle.
· Review all invoices and expense reports for proper documentation and approval.
· Research any cash related inquiries.
· Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records.
· Provide assistance and back up as needed to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
· Participate in and implement special projects as assigned by the Controller.
· Create purchase orders for all capital expenditures.
· Assist in preparing and posting daily and monthly cash journal entries.
· Assist Controller and Chief Financial Officer in preparation for year-end audit.
Skills/Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business or 5 years experience in accounting
· Knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting insurance principles for property/casualty insurance.
· Accounting software proficiency (Oracle)
· Proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and email programs
· Excellent communication skills, positive professional attitude, have good attendance and be self-motivated
· Attention to detail, accuracy with strong organizational skills, and capability to meet deadlines
· CPA or active candidate
· Knowledge of P&C Annual Statement preparation software
