Staff Embedded Cybersecurity Software Engineer

About the Job

What you will do:



There is an immediate opening for a Staff Engineer with experience in operating systems and embedded device security. This engineer will be responsible for deploying Standard Operating system(s) on select HW platforms and assisting with secure development for multiple families of control devices.  




The primary responsibility for this role is to champion development of a secure software used over multiple platforms.  The embedded device security work includes initiatives around secure boot on all platforms, developing a certificate management process for customer sites, helping with the deployment of device verification certificates in all platforms.  Additional responsibilities include mentoring other engineers the nuances of secure development and cryptography.  



This position offers the opportunity to take a technical leadership role in our building automation and controls business and help shape the future of intelligent, automated, and connected equipment and systems.  We seek someone who is excited about solving complex technical challenges across the multiple domains (e.g. security, communications, control, monitoring and embedded software).



How you will do it:



  • Serve as a security expert in embedded and application development.

  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members and help develop their knowledge of embedded systems including security.

  • Keep abreast of the current cybersecurity trends and competitive landscape.

  • Interact with software architects or other technical leaders to understand subsystem and component specifications and recommend changes to facilitate efficient and effective development.

  • Provide technical direction, leadership, and reviews to other engineers working on the same project.

  • Implement and debug subsystems and components.











What we look for:



Required Education and Technical Skills:



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field

  • Ten or more years of embedded device development or related product security field

  • Experience with embedded Linux operating systems and hardware capabilities.

  • Experience with vulnerability management, open source security issues, threat modeling, and working with third party penetration testers

  • Hands on experience with system programming, development of service/driver type of applications in C/C++. 

  • Strong programming skills

  • Working experience on securing protocols, system level encryption mechanisms, algorithms

  • Secure boot on devices with Linux, RTOS

  • Understanding FIPS 140-2 Level-1 compliance

  • Experience in developing infrastructure for Root Certificate Authority system

  • Handling digital birth certificate

  • Experience in System authentication and authorization protocols/specs; OAuth 2, OpenID, etc.

  • Experience in implementing file level data encryption (Data at rest)

  • Validate HTTPS cipher suite configurations(data in motion) used on platforms

  • Experience in VPN and Firewall implementations

  • Must have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to discuss technical topics to individuals and groups with a wide range of technical backgrounds.



Preferred:



  • Good knowledge of software development tools and methodologies. 

  • An understanding of cryptography as it relates to embedded systems and communications is desired.

  • A knowledge of the state of the art security methods and implementation is also desired. 

  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies 

  • Expert knowledge of computer languages, data structures, program design methods and techniques.

  • Overall knowledge of the computing environment at large, e.g. typical uses and user populations of operating systems, communications protocols, hardware platforms, etc.

  • Ability to conduct cyber security hardware reviews
