Job Responsibilities:
SUMMARY
Completes work on major, complex store IT architecture projects. Applies hardware engineering and software design theories and principles in researching, designing, and developing network, hardware, and applications architectures for a large retail store chain. Provides integrated systems and architectural planning and recommends innovative solutions that will improve the current store environment. Coordinates activities of a project team, as required, and assists in monitoring project schedules and costs. Understands how to leverage systems, applications, and architectures for competitive advantage. This position leads the shape of technology in the store now and in the future.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Architects the strategic direction for the store system
Analyzes business functions and requirements at the store level to develop specifications and recommend solutions
Manages vendor relationships with respect to new and emerging technologies.
Projects participation as lead architectural resource in IT capital projects.
Reports in a professional manner on project deliverables, design specifications, and other R&D documentation.
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with IT and business.
Direct and influence technology initiatives within the store technology space.
Identify opportunities to optimize current solutions
Understand and stay current on best practices in the retail technology sector.
Participates in overall IT Architecture Review Council as a part of the project lifecycle of all technology projects
Publishes and updates “State of the Store” document for leadership review.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Understands and can clearly articulate the technical details of the entire point of sale (POS) process including the entire lifecycle of a credit, debit, gift card, or cash transaction.
Clear understanding of PCI guidelines and how they relate to the store technology stack.
Strong understanding of low cost, high volume technology devices such as pin pads, registers, store servers, time clocks, and kiosks.
Detailed understanding of store wireless solutions such as RF guns (Symbol strongly preferred).
Develops strong architecture documentation including design documents and future state roadmaps.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum five years experience in the Information Technology field with progressively increasing responsibilities.
Has worked in and understands Project Management methodologies especially in research, design, and development phases.
Experience with the design and deployment of store technology through a large retail chain
Proven track record of reducing the complexity or cost of the store technology footprint is a strong plus
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Able to communicate comfortably with all levels of corporate management.
Able to communicate extemporaneously in conceptual discussions regarding technical topics.
BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE
Understands the challenges of scaling, implementing, and supporting remotely deployed information systems across a large retail chain.
LEADERSHIP
Able to lead technology discussions concerning existing projects and emerging technologies.
Leads architecture recommendations as part of project team.
Must have the ability to work independently – a strong self starter and individual leader is key here
