Store Manager Trainee

About the Job

As a Manager Trainee (MT) you will spend every day that you work learning and mastering the skills required to perform as a top Store Manager.  At the completion of the program, as a need opens, you will be given your own store to operate and will be required to perform the following functions:

·         Communicate and model standards for customer service

·         Manage the appearance of the store in conjunction with store priorities to present a desirable image

·         Manage the training, development and performance of store personnel

·         Support the achievement of controllable expense goals

·         Assure adherence to cash policies and procedures to minimize loss

·         Develop and implement action plans that will improve operating results

·         Modify work schedules and staffing levels when deemed appropriate

·         Verify billing and retail accuracy of products received into the store and reacts appropriately to any discrepancies

·         Complete and submit appropriate reporting to account for price changes and product receipt

·         Basic administrative duties such as filing, filling out forms, counting and basic arithmetic equations

Position Details:    

Program length:   Your first month will be spent learning the day to day operations of the store you have been assigned to as your training location.  You may be tasked with a shift during your first month if you have progressed, but this time will primary be spent stocking shelves, receiving goods, running a register, and many other day to day functions.  After you have mastered the skills required to operate the store you will be given shifts as the Assistant Store Manager.  You will perform the ASM function for a time frame of approximately one year.  If you make a name for yourself as a top performer you may be offered a store early, but you can plan on about a year.

Shift Work: The store operates during retail hours, mostly Monday through Saturday, 7:30 – 9:30 PM and Sunday, 11 AM – 7 PM.  In training, expect a 40-hour week as you will be paid hourly and over time for MT personnel in not allowed.  You MUST go in with the attitude that you can work when needed.  You will work every weekend, either Saturday or Sunday.  Once assigned your store you will make the schedule and you can expect your hours to average around a 50-hour week.                                                                           

Locations:  Southeastern Michigan (Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Saginaw)

Requirements:  You must want to run your own store.  You must be excited about the opportunity to take control of a business and manage the profitability and loss.  Currently looking for great leaders with a winning attitude.  You will make great money after you take a store of your own, but you will work on the weekends for the remainder of your career.  You must be excited at the opportunity to deal with customers on a daily basis.  If you want to sit in your office and avoid customer situations, this is not the career for you.  We have had success placing military veterans into this program and they have primarily been enlisted E5 and above.

Salary: $20/hr during your training period.  When you get your own store you will move to salary + bonus and successful Store Managers earn approximately $65-85K annually.
