Gems Sensors Inc. in Plainville, CT is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Specialist.  The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for developing supplier relationships, identifying and achieving total cost improvements, and managing strategic projects for a group of commodities.

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Execute sourcing funnel process to resource strategic parts to new suppliers
• Support Engineering in new product development to include sourcing suppliers, obtaining samples, and quotes.
• Lead vendor consolidation process of identifying and developing strategically important suppliers
• Proactively monitor marketplace conditions, long-range commodity capacity issues, supplier closings, and supplier stock out situations that would have a major impact on the business.
• Coordinate tooling projects.  Maintain tooling status log and work with suppliers until first piece is approved.
• Locate and develop suppliers domestically and in Low Cost Regions, and engage suppliers in projects to improve quality, lead-time, and price/terms.  Recognize opportunities for LCR sources. 
• Initiate Total Cost improvement projects.
• Be responsible and accountable for the strategic direction and daily management of specific purchased commodities
• Drive regular improvement in Purchase Price Variance (PPV) through RFQs, auctions, and negotiations with suppliers.
• Drive quality and productivity (team effectiveness and efficiency) improvements using DBS principles.
• Act as change agent to implement constant state of improvement by "doing things differently".

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

 BS degree, technical degree preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 3-5 yrs. work experience, procurement experience of 2+ years preferred
