Job Description

Student Support Advisor I

Located at our O'Hare Center, the Student Support Advisor is responsible for advising students on, and coordinating/managing resolution of, financial aid, academic, and service-related issues.  Coordinates the student finance process by interviewing students, determining eligibility, ensuring all paperwork is completed and forwarding to e-processing.  Also, the Student Support Advisor coordinates the academic advisement process by meeting with students and assisting in course/program selection and maintaining accurate records requirements.  Provides excellent customer service to students and works to overcome student issues/problems to promote student success.

  • Coordinates with the appropriate campus in identifying veterans and transmits benefits certification information for each term.
  • Performs data entry including entering comments, entrance and exit counseling dates, and Perkins paperwork received dates.
  • Handles all aspects of the financial aid for new students assisting in creating a financial and academic plan, entrance and exit interviews and resolves complex financial aid issues.
  • Works with faculty and staff to identify students having academic problems, including attendance issues, and strives to overcome these issues to promote student success and retention; coordinates discipline issues with student services.
  • Monitors curriculum records and maintains student records and files, including processing course waivers/exemptions and use/review of Degree Navigator and its associated reports.
  • Manages the offer and acceptance process for admissions.
  • Participates in student registration activities and development activities designed to promote student awareness, retention and success.
  • Possesses knowledge of all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and laws, including ADA compliance and International student paperwork.
  • Manages transcript evaluations, including performing informal transfer credit evaluations.
  • Serve as a student advocate when assisting with the resolution of student problems.
  • Conducts new student orientation presentations regarding accelerated and online course delivery.
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One to five years related financial/academic advising and/or training experience preferred.
  • PC skills in Microsoft Office, Internet applications and database software. Experience with Student Financial Aid software application a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task.
