Supplier Quality Engineer: TL9000, Electronics

Job Description

Modis is currently seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer who has a strong blend of quality, process, technical, business, and communication skills. Must demonstrate capability to design an overall Supplier Quality Management Program based on industry best practices.

This is a 6 month contract to hire position located in Herndon, VA.
 
Candidates should have quality systems experience with TL-9000, quality engineering/ technician experience, and electronics experience

Responsibilities:
Provides technical support and executes supplier quality engineering and management as part of supplier qualification, process improvement and problem solving for the quality assurance function.

Develops a supplier audit schedule and ensures audits are conducted on a scheduled basis.  

Supports management of suppliers, which includes maintaining supplier corrective actions, supplier audits, supplier certification, non-conforming material review and failure analysis.  

Works with Purchasing and other Supply Chain roles to track ongoing supplier quality performance and work with suppliers on quality issues.  

Coordinate and complete all tasks and documentation required for externally supplied component and supplier qualifications (First Article Inspections).  

Develop, review and update supplied component sampling plans based on associated risk and past performance.  

Review and provide recommendations regarding component specifications and other change control related (CR’s) documentation prior to final approval.  

Identify and assess new opportunities for supplier improvements to work processes, product, and/or services.  

Assist in developing best practices (standard inspection procedures, work instructions, quality test methods, and policies).  

Assist in developing and/or maintain the TL 9000 Quality System to include identifying, initiating, and/or performing Corrective and Preventive Action activities.  

Investigate component and supplier process issues by conducting failure/root cause investigations as needed.  

Communicate, interact and coordinate quality improvement efforts with Manufacturing, QA, Engineering, Technical Assistance Center (TAC), and Supply Chain regarding product status, deviations and problems.  

Assists in developing calibration methods and frequencies for new production related equipment.  

Assists in defining and executing Periodic Retesting requirements for products and critical components.  

Assist Quality in performing FMEA, Cpk analysis, Quality Plans, etc.  

Actively pursues improved methods of assuring excellent quality at our key supplier base (e.g. SPC, non-destructive testing, cost–effective sampling plans, etc.).  

Manages key supplier scorecards/dashboard; provides sound data analysis, and recommends decisions.  

Provides input to Quality Management on supplier activities/performance, as part of quarterly reviews.  

Assists in representing the company during regulatory agency, notified body or other 3rd party audits. 

Required Experience: 

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, Business or related field is required.  

CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or CQA (Certified Quality Auditor) is highly desirable.  

5+ years experience in Quality Engineering/Assurance, Supplier Quality Engineering or related functions.  

Experience performing external supplier audits, especially in electronics manufacturing facilities; background in managing contract manufacturers.  

Must have familiarity with statistical analysis and the ability to analyze and solve problems using the 8D Corrective Action method, or other problem resolution methods.  

Ability to analyze large data sets from disparate sources, draw meaningful conclusions, and make recommendations.  

Working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma is highly desirable.  

Must demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with external Suppliers and across departments.  

Working knowledge of ISO 9001 is required, with preference given to experience in TL 9000.  

Project management and leadership experience is preferred.  

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.  

Working experience in enterprise business systems is a plus (Agile, Remedy, Oracle, Business Objects/Crystal Reports).  

Demonstrate excelling in a dynamic hi-tech environment; ability to manage multiple, complex tasks to resolution.  

Ability to travel to key supplier sites (domestic and international travel).
